About The Position

Raytheon’s Data, Analytics and AI organization is seeking a Technical Lead to guide the design and delivery of innovative, enterprise-scale software solutions. The role provides hands-on technical leadership to a team building AI-enabled applications, including conversational interfaces and chatbot solutions powered by Large Language Models (LLMs), to improve business processes, information access, and productivity. The position focuses on full-stack application development using Angular-based user interfaces, Java backend services, and RESTful APIs connecting enterprise systems with AI/LLM capabilities. The core emphasis is on strong software engineering fundamentals and delivering secure, scalable, reliable, and maintainable solutions. The Technical Lead provides technical guidance, mentorship, and code leadership, and collaborates with stakeholders, product owners, solution architects, and cross-functional teams using the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe). This is a hybrid role based in Tucson, Arizona. Onsite work is typically required one to three times per month depending on project needs, including work in factory or classified environments. U.S. citizenship is required to access information under the program or contract.

Requirements

University degree or equivalent experience and at least 8 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree in a related field and at least 5 years of experience.
Demonstrated experience designing and developing full-stack enterprise web applications using modern software development technologies and frameworks.
Experience developing modern, responsive web applications using Angular, TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
Experience developing Java-based backend applications and RESTful APIs using Spring Boot or similar frameworks.
Understanding of object-oriented programming, software design patterns, API integration, and application architecture.
Technical leadership experience guiding application design, mentoring developers, and contributing to software development in an Agile/Scrum environment.
U.S. citizenship is required.

Nice To Haves

Experience developing AI-enabled applications, including conversational interfaces, chatbots, or applications integrating with LLMs.
Familiarity with LLM integration patterns, including API-based model interactions, prompt management, conversation context, and response handling.
Understanding of AI application patterns such as Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), semantic search, and enterprise data integration.
Experience integrating Angular applications with Java/Spring Boot backend services in an enterprise environment.
Experience designing intuitive, responsive, and accessible interfaces for interactive or conversational applications.
Experience with Python, .NET, or other backend application development technologies.
Experience developing secure, scalable, and maintainable enterprise applications, including authentication, authorization, and secure API integration.
Database design and query experience with Oracle, MariaDB (MySQL), SQL Server, or similar relational databases.
Experience with containerization, cloud-native application architectures, or deployment of distributed services.
Experience identifying and remediating cybersecurity vulnerabilities in enterprise applications.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills, including the ability to independently resolve complex technical challenges.
Effective communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence technical decisions and collaborate with business stakeholders.
Collaboration, influencing, and conflict resolution skills in a dynamic team environment.
Experience collaborating across software engineering, AI/ML, data engineering, and enterprise architecture disciplines.
Matillion or other ETL tools experience.
Familiarity with JSON, XML, YAML, and other commonly used application integration formats.

Responsibilities

Provide hands-on technical leadership in designing, developing, testing, deploying, and maintaining AI-enabled enterprise applications, including LLM-powered conversational interfaces, chatbots, and agentic AI solutions.
Design and develop full-stack web applications, emphasizing Angular and TypeScript frontend development, Java backend services, and RESTful APIs.
Develop and maintain application interfaces and backend services that integrate with LLM platforms, enterprise data sources, and internal systems.
Collaborate with AI/ML specialists, solution architects, and development teams to integrate AI capabilities into reliable, secure, and user-friendly applications.
Own complex application development challenges, evaluate technical approaches, and drive solutions from concept through implementation and production support.
Provide technical direction, mentoring, coaching, and code reviews while contributing to application design and development.
Establish and promote engineering best practices, including architectural design, reusable components, automated testing, source control, and CI/CD.
Collaborate with product ownership and development teams to establish technical roadmaps, prioritize enhancements, and address technical debt and infrastructure requirements.
Troubleshoot and resolve complex performance, integration, reliability, and cybersecurity issues.
Communicate and present technical approaches, architectural decisions, and development progress to technical teams and non-technical stakeholders.
Provide technical expertise and leadership across application development teams to resolve significant technical challenges.
