About The Position

The TLA demonstrates the ability to perform phlebotomy and a variety of technical and clerical functions in the Laboratory based on the needs of the individual campus. He/she performs routine laboratory procedures based on principles of human growth and development according to established lab guidelines using customer focus, teamwork, adaptability to change, problem solving, communication and personal excellence. Position handles blood, tissue, fecal matter, sputum, urine, spinal fluid and other body fluids. Specimens may be contaminated with infectious diseases including HIV and other blood borne pathogens. As a High Reliability Organization (HRO), responsibilities require focus on safety, quality and efficiency in performing job duties. Requirements

  • High School or GED
  • Driver's License
  • Knowledge of phlebotomy (6 months - 1 year)
  • Previous clinical experience

Responsibilities

  • Perform phlebotomy and/or specimen processing (70%)
  • Adhere to Safety and Infection Control practices
  • Provide customer service to clinicians and clients
  • Communicate professionally on the telephone with physician office staff, clinical staff, and laboratory associates
  • Communicate with patients and their families, and use service recovery where necessary
  • Perform associated computer related tasks (i.e. LIS, e-Source) (15%)
  • Train new employees and students (5%)
  • Adhere to regulatory compliance including National Patient Safety Goals, CAP, OSHA, JCAHO, CMS, OSH and Laboratory Policies and Procedures (5%)
  • Maintain competencies, mandatory required education (ACE) (5%)
  • Perform miscellaneous tasks as assigned
