About The Position

BAE Systems is seeking a Technical Intern to join their Navigation and Sensor Systems organization at their Cedar Rapids, Iowa location. This internship is part of the nationwide LEAP Internship & Co-op Program, offering opportunities to Learn, Engage, Apply, and Progress within the company. The intern will work closely with a hardware engineering team on ground and airborne navigation products, assisting with technical requirements, creating mechanical design artifacts and CAD models, supporting integration and verification testing, generating mechanical design documents, and providing support for manufacturing transitions and interdisciplinary engineering efforts. The duration of the position is from January through mid-August 2027, and the candidate must be available for the entire period. This is a full-time, onsite position requiring 100% presence at a BAE Systems facility due to the need for in-person collaboration and the nature of the role.

Requirements

  • Must be within or have completed your junior year of a four year degree program in a Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Experience with CAD software
  • Ability to obtain a DoD Security Clearance
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Good organizational skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and assignments

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with a hardware engineering team to support ground and airborne navigation products
  • Assist with capturing technical requirements
  • Create mechanical design artifacts and computer-aided design (CAD) models
  • Support integration and verification testing over military grade climatic and dynamic environments
  • Generate and review mechanical design documents, drawings, procedures and reports
  • Assist in transitioning products to manufacturing and provide mechanical design support
  • Support design and integration efforts with other engineering disciplines including electrical, software, systems, and test engineering as necessary
