About The Position

Royal Bank of Canada is seeking a Technical Information Security Officer to provide US regional cybersecurity leadership and ensure our operational security capabilities meet regulatory expectations and industry security standards. This strategic role focuses on strengthening incident response readiness, improving cyber resilience, and advancing threat intelligence and threat hunting capabilities across our US Lines of Business. In this role you will oversee enterprise cybersecurity operations, lead response to major security incidents, and work collaboratively with US legal entities, Business Information Security Officers (BISOs), technology teams, and risk stakeholders to identify and remediate operational security gaps through proactive threat detection and intelligence-driven security initiatives.

Requirements

  • University degree, or equivalent combination of education and cybersecurity experience.
  • 7-10 years in cybersecurity operations roles, preferably in financial institutions.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with threat intelligence analysis and threat hunting.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead enterprise cybersecurity operations programs, incident response, and cyber resilience initiatives.
  • Experienced coordinating major cybersecurity incident investigations, remediation efforts, and crisis management.
  • Operational risk identification and remediation planning expertise.
  • Proven capability collaborating with global security operations teams and cross-organizational stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify advanced threats and indicators of compromise through proactive threat hunting.
  • Experience developing threat hunting methodologies, detection strategies, and detection use cases.
  • Proficiency in threat intelligence platforms, tools, frameworks, and threat hunting tools and techniques.
  • Deep understanding of threat actor tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) relevant to financial services.
  • Ability to analyze and correlate security data to identify advanced threats and anomalous activity.
  • Skilled at driving improvements in monitoring and detection capabilities.
  • Strong background integrating enterprise systems into monitoring and detection platforms.
  • Strong understanding of operational security risks affecting enterprise environments.
  • Ability to translate operational risk and threat intelligence into technical security initiatives.
  • Familiarity supporting regulatory reviews, cybersecurity assessments, and regulatory cybersecurity programs.
  • Executive communication skills regarding cyber operational posture and threat exposure.
  • Ability to translate complex threat intelligence for diverse audiences.
  • Capability to lead and mentor threat hunting and security operations teams.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee operational cybersecurity capabilities supporting US Lines of Business and ensure alignment with regulatory expectations and security standards.
  • Identify operational security gaps in US environments and collaborate with Risk Leads, BISOs, and technology teams to drive remediation initiatives.
  • Track and support remediation of operational cybersecurity risks and regulatory findings related to cybersecurity operations and incident management.
  • Lead development and maturity of threat intelligence capabilities supporting US operations.
  • Analyze threat landscape and adversarial tactics relevant to US regional financial services to inform security posture improvements.
  • Collaborate with global threat intelligence and security operations teams to share insights, coordinate defensive measures, and align incident response strategies.
  • Direct threat hunting initiatives to proactively identify advanced threats, compromised assets, and indicators of compromise within US environments.
  • Coordinate threat hunting activities with security operations and incident response teams.
  • Support integration of enterprise systems into monitoring and detection platforms.
  • Develop detection use cases and drive improvements in monitoring and detection capabilities based on threat intelligence and attack patterns.
  • Provide technical leadership during cybersecurity incidents affecting US entities.
  • Coordinate response activities with business, technology, and risk teams during major incidents, including investigations and remediation efforts.
  • Ensure incident response processes meet US regulatory reporting and response expectations.
  • Leverage threat intelligence and hunting insights to improve incident response effectiveness.
  • Support regulatory assessments and executive briefings related to security incidents, threat landscape, and cyber operational posture.
  • Provide executive communication regarding cyber operational posture and threat exposure.
