Technical Illustrator I
About The Position
Prepare illustrations for technical manuals, supplements, and other technical documentation. The role involves reviewing engineering drawings, engineering orders, and related technical data to determine how aircraft modifications and component specifications affect illustrations in ART documents. The illustrator develops expertise in ART’s technical illustration methods, upholds applicable FAA, EASA, customer, and ART quality standards, and contributes to improving Technical Publications procedures, quality control, workflows, and tools. The role also requires understanding ART policies and procedures, coordinating professionally with internal customers, and performing other assigned duties and special projects.
Requirements
- An associate degree in Visual Arts or a related technical field; relevant work experience may be substituted.
- One year of experience as a technical illustrator.
- Good oral, written, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Fluency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with Adobe Acrobat, Photoshop, and Illustrator applications, or equivalent applications.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD design and drafting software.
- Aircraft-related technical illustration experience.
- Familiarity with aircraft technical manuals such as MM, IPC, and SRM, and the ATA iSpec 2200 format.
- Experience with transport-category aircraft.
Responsibilities
- Prepare illustrations for technical manuals, supplements, and other technical documentation.
- Research and review engineering drawings, engineering orders, and related technical data defining aircraft modifications and component specifications.
- Determine the effect of aircraft modifications and component specifications on technical illustrations used in ART documents.
- Develop expertise in technical illustration methods used at ART.
- Uphold FAA, EASA, customer, and ART quality standards.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of Technical Publications department illustration procedures, including quality control, workflow, and tools.
- Develop a strong understanding of ART policies and procedures.
- Coordinate professionally with internal customers to promote and support organizational business interests.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
