About The Position

The Technical Liability Claims Adjuster manages a portfolio of high exposure, complex, and often litigated liability claims from first notice of loss (FNOL) through final resolution. This role leads investigations, evaluates liability and damages, sets and adjusts reserves, negotiates settlements within authority, and partners with legal counsel, carriers/TPAs, and internal stakeholders to drive timely, cost effective outcomes. The successful candidate applies deep technical expertise, strong judgment, and excellent communication skills to reduce loss costs, safeguard brand reputation, and improve claim handling quality.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Business, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 10+ years casualty/liability claims adjusting experience with a focus on complex and litigated claims; hospitality/retail experience a must
  • Active Property & Casualty Adjuster License (multi state/MPCAL preferred where required)
  • Demonstrated success negotiating high severity claims and directing litigation strategy
  • Proficiency with RMIS/claims platforms and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills; confident presenting to leadership
  • High integrity, sound judgment, and ability to handle confidential information appropriately

Responsibilities

  • Lead thorough investigations on complex GL, premises liability, liquor liability, and catastrophic injury claims from intake through closure
  • Interview guest(s), restaurant management and team members, as well as witnesses to gather all facts regarding the event
  • Collect and analyze statements, incident reports, medicals, bills/records, surveillance, and other evidence; preserve chain of custody where applicable
  • Evaluate liability, causation, and damages; identify comparative negligence and subrogation opportunities; recommend coverage positions in collaboration with Legal
  • Establish, review, and document timely and adequate reserves; update based on new information and litigation developments
  • Direct strategy on litigated claims with defense counsel, including discovery, depositions, mediation, and trial planning; evaluate exposure and settlement value
  • Negotiate settlements within authority and prepare settlement recommendations for higher approvals when needed; ensure releases meet company standards
  • Manage panel counsel performance, budgets, and outcomes; challenge unsupported demands and implement cost containment tactics (e.g., IMEs, bill review, nurse case management, surveillance)
