About The Position

At the Nuclear Science & Technology (NS&T) directorate at Idaho National Laboratory, you'll serve as the go-to problem solver for engineers and researchers working on the across Idaho National Laboratory's most advanced programs. You'll provide subject matter expertise, develop technical evaluations, build graphical models, support procurement of critical equipment, and deliver engineering direction on the strategic projects that power America's nuclear and energy future. As a core senior member of the Nuclear Science and Technology’s Applied Engineering division, group you will play a critical role in determining the engineering process associated with research test system design and operations. You’ll also serve as the shaker table test Subject Matter Expert for an array of challenging programs currently under way at INL.

Requirements

• Level 4: Bachelor of Science degree in a technical field from an accredited institution and 9 years of relevant experience; or a Master's of Science degree in a technical field from an accredited institution and 6 years of relevant experience; or a PhD in a technical field from an accredited institution and 4 years of relevant experience.
• Level 5: Bachelor of Science degree in a technical field from an accredited institution and 14 years of relevant experience; or a Master's of Science degree in a technical field from an accredited institution and 8 years of relevant experience; or a PhD in a technical field from an accredited institution and 6 years of relevant experience.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE “L” level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
• Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Must demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills.
• Must demonstrate excellent judgment and decision-making.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with research engineers and scientists and engineers to provide technical input on various advanced research system design and lab modifications.
• Function as a Subject Matter Expert providing to offer solutions to everyday issues challenges for facing Facility Managers, Engineers, and Researchers.
• Function as a and Subject Matter Expert on Shaker Table testing operations and fixture design.
• Use experience and knowledge to work with engineers and operators to troubleshoot and repair issues.
• Use data analytic tools and experience to solve complex technical issues.
• Use various software packages to develop intuitive graphical interfaces and/or models.
• Prepare Technical Evaluations or Engineering Calculation Reports (ECAR), as applicable.
• Provide technical input to support procurement activities of capital or other systems science equipment with respect to operations, reliability, and performance.
• Provide technical direction on proposals and strategic business ventures to ensure the work is being executed timely and correctly.
• Exercise independent judgment and understanding of Engineering/BEA/DOE requirements and priorities.
• Develop relationships as needed to support work assignments if this is very important when requires technical inputs lay existing outside of normal your expertise or education.
• Collaborate with engineers and researches across all directorates to identify NS&T engineering process requirements for design and operation of research systems.
