Technical Engineer Internship - Des Moines, IA (Summer 2027)
About The Position
Our Technology & Engineering internship program offers opportunities for 100+ interns and has a strong reputation with over 20 years of history. You’ll work on real projects collaborating with a range of team members from other interns through senior level management. We'll place you in a role customized to your expertise and interests all while working in an Agile team environment. You'll be assigned a formal leader and mentor to help guide you through the program. This is an excellent opportunity to understand and learn more about Principal’s Technology Engineering culture. As a Technical Engineer Intern, you’ll support, implement, and enhance the technologies that keep our business running. You’ll work directly with internal and external partners to solve problems, provide excellent customer service, and ensure our systems are secure and reliable. Requirements
- Currently pursuing or have completed an undergraduate degree program - in a preferred science, technology, engineering, or math-related field of study
- Involved in student organizations on your respective campus, within the community or have prior internship experience
- Exceptional communication and organizational skills
- Strong work ethic and a passion for technology which includes technical curiosity and the ability to think critically and solution for technology-based problems
Nice To Haves
- Leadership experience through student organizations, work, or community involvement
- Previous internship, work, or project experience in technology support, customer service, or troubleshooting
- Familiarity with automation, scripting, reporting, or data analysis tools (e.g., PowerShell, Power Platform, DAX, Power Query M)
- Exposure to enterprise technologies, cybersecurity concepts, identity management, or device management tools
- Experience with business applications and platforms such as ServiceNow, Salesforce, or similar technologies
- Interest in emerging technologies, including generative and agentic AI
- Ability to collaborate effectively, think critically, solve problems, and learn new technologies in an Agile team environment
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning through coursework, certifications, projects, or other learning opportunities
Responsibilities
- Troubleshooting and resolving technical issues across devices and applications
- Learning and contributing to the usability, security, and performance of supported systems
- Collaborating with partners to identify needs, document requirements, and design solutions
- Providing hands-on support to business partners through calls, emails, and chat
- Independently researching and applying solutions in a fast-paced environment
