About The Position

Come join our team as a Technical Editor! This pivotal role is essential to maintaining Osborn Consulting's reputation for accuracy and professionalism. As a team player, you will support all our practices as they deliver critical public infrastructure projects throughout the Pacific Northwest. You will collaborate with project managers and technical staff to produce a variety of unique project deliverables, including memorandums and reports, supporting projects that make a direct impact on our local communities. We are looking for a highly organized, detail-oriented, and reliable individual with excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to manage and prioritize multiple concurrent tasks. This will be a part-time, benefit-eligible role at 32 hours/week with the potential of developing into a 40-hour full-time position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, English, communications, engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of related work experience
  • Strong writing, technical editing, proofreading, and page composition skills.
  • Strong Microsoft Suite skills, including formatting and report production.
  • Ability to manage competing deadlines and work with multiple project managers concurrently.
  • Flexibility to edit to requested level of effort and understand when lighter copyediting or more detailed line editing may be required.
  • Strong attention to detail and takes ownership of managing workload.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in A/E/C industry strongly preferred.
  • Experience in SpecsIntact is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the technical editing of material for reports, memorandums, sales proposals, training materials, engineering specifications, meeting minutes, presentations, and other technical and administrative publications.
  • Performs copyediting on technical documents according to the Chicago Manual of Style and Osborn’s in-house style guide.
  • Reviews documents with a strategic lens to ensure they fulfill their intended purpose, asking clarifying questions and using editorial expertise to enhance clarity, flow, and audience understanding.
  • Conducts research and ensures the use of proper technical and industry terminology; ensures consistency and accuracy of language use and acronym usage.
  • Prioritizes editing focus (e.g., grammar and punctuation, clarity, word choice, and formatting) based on the requested level of effort and time available for each project.
  • As necessary or as requested, reorganizes, cuts, or rewrites document content.
  • Reviews draft Word tables and figures to ensure the content supports and is consistent with the accompanying text.
  • Serves as the company subject matter expert on Microsoft Word and Excel formatting.
  • Ensures documents meet ADA accessibility requirements and follow recommendations for accessible Word documents.
  • Performs final formatting and production of documents, including compilation of PDFs.
  • Manages the Osborn template library, creating new, easy-to-use Word templates and revising templates as needed.
  • Manages the Osborn style guide and usage guide.
  • Develops internal training to promote technical report writing skills.
