About The Position

The City of Sandy Springs is seeking an experienced, dynamic, and highly organized Technical Director to lead backstage and production operations at City Springs and the Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center. This role is at the center of making every event safe, seamless, and memorable, from theatrical productions and concerts to community events and private rentals. The Technical Director will oversee production operations across multiple City Springs venues, including the Byers Theatre (1,100 seats), Studio Theatre (400 seats), Conference Center, Rooftop Terrace Bar, Outdoor City Green, and CityBar. The position serves as the Safety Warden for live events on the City Springs campus and plays a key role in strategic planning, operational support, and department-wide success.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required
  • Five (5) years of experience in a performing arts center environment
  • Experience working with both IATSE and non-union crews
  • Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Theatrical Production or a related field preferred
  • Calm and confident leader under pressure
  • Expertise in one or more of the following: stage rigging, sound reinforcement, and performance lighting
  • Experience with CAD software, preferably Vectorworks
  • A strong collaborator who works well with artists, clients, crews, vendors, and internal teams
  • A detail-oriented planner who can balance logistics, budgets, staffing, and deadlines
  • Committed to delivering a high-quality production experience across every event space

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate production operations for rental and presented events at City Springs
  • Advance all production-related aspects of performances and events
  • Oversee lighting, sound, projections, staging, rigging, fly systems, and scenic elements
  • Develop clean, professional floor plans, layouts, and light plots using CAD technology
  • Meet with clients and prospects to assess technical needs and identify efficient event solutions
  • Manage production details, stage specifications, and technical logistics to ensure smooth event execution
  • Enter and reconcile all production-related charges in Momentus booking software
  • Create and manage production budgets
  • Negotiate and procure rental equipment and production services
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with production vendors and service providers
  • Hire, schedule, train, and supervise technical staff and stagehands, including coordination with IATSE crews when needed
  • Supervise the AV Technician for the conference center
  • Maintain production files and records for current and historical events
  • Participate in staff meetings and serve as a member of the management team
  • Serve as Manager on Duty for selected events
  • Help develop and implement production-related policies and procedures
