Technical Designer
About The Position
As Technical Designer, you will execute technical product specifications for multiple complex programs within Kohl’s Proprietary Brands. You will develop accurate technical specifications aligning with Kohl’s brand ID, minimum construction standards, tolerances and grading requirements. You will collaborate with Product Integrity to ensure products meet performance testing protocols and requirements. You will conduct benchmarking and remain current on market trends and competition, providing recommendations based on insights. You will apply industry knowledge to resolve fit and production issues, fostering supplier and peer relationships. You will demonstrate proficiency in grading and consistency management, aligning with Technical Design Leadership and suppliers to implement changes. You will prepare for the Seasonal Sample Fit Benchmark by reviewing samples and presenting hypotheses for product improvements. You will guide new hires on Kohl’s processes and procedures. You will communicate technical specifications and collaborate with Vendors via PLM during product development. You will communicate sample corrections clearly to Vendors through written summaries, sketches and photos. You will support vendor onboarding and Certified Technical Designer training. Additional tasks may be assigned.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in Technical Design, Fashion Design, Pattern Making, Manufacturing or related industries
- Exceptional attention to detail with strong organizational skills
- Effective verbal and written communication abilities
- Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion Design, Apparel Manufacturing or a related field of expertise
- Basic math and reading skills, legible handwriting, and basic computer operation
- Ability to maintain prompt and regular attendance and meet scheduling requirements as set by the company
- Ability to learn and comply with all company policies, procedures, standards and guidelines
- Ability to give direction and to receive, understand and proactively respond to direction from leadership and other company personnel
- Ability to work as part of a team and interact effectively and appropriately with others
- Ability to maintain composure and work in a fast paced environment while accomplishing multiple tasks within established timeframes
- Ability to satisfactorily complete company training programs
- Ability to use a personal computer for tasks such as communicating, preparing reports, etc.
- Ability to plan, prioritize and monitor activities across business units
- Ability to complete or oversee the completion of assigned projects in a timely manner
Nice To Haves
- Experience using PLM and Adobe Illustrator or similar specification packages and sketching programs
- Knowledge of textiles, construction and pattern-making/grading
