We're seeking an experienced Technical Designer to join our team on a temporary basis and help ensure our products meet the exceptional fit, construction, and quality standards our customers expect. This is a temporary assignment expected to last 4-6 months and requires onsite presence at our Freeport, Maine headquarters two days per week. In this role, you'll partner closely with cross-functional teams to evaluate product fit, develop and maintain technical specifications, and drive continuous improvements throughout the product development process. Requirements

  • Experience in Technical Design, Product Development, Apparel Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of garment construction, fit evaluation, patternmaking, and quality standards.
  • Experience creating and maintaining technical specifications and fit documentation.
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence cross-functional partners.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • 2-year associates degree
  • 3+ years of relevant experience
  • Strong knowledge of apparel or accessory garment construction, terminology and fit
  • Strong knowledge of pattern making/draping and grading
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills including 3D (CLO), Adobe Illustrator and PDM (Product Data Management)
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Solid technical drawing skills
  • Good understanding of the L.L.Bean customer
  • Good attention to detail
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment
  • Ability to lift/carry 20lbs. on a regular basis

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate samples for fit, construction, and quality against established standards.
  • Conduct detailed garment measurements and ensure consistency within specification guidelines.
  • Lead fit sessions and provide technical recommendations to improve product fit and performance.
  • Create, maintain, and update technical specifications throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Partner with Product Development, Merchandining, and other cross-functional teams to resolve fit and construction issues.
  • Identify opportunities to improve fit, quality, and overall product consistency.
  • Support commercialization efforts by helping ensure products are production-ready and aligned with brand standards.
