About The Position

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) is seeking a Technical Coordinator/Sr. Technical Coordinator specializing in high-performance computing (HPC) data center operations, maintenance, and electrical distribution design. This role involves working independently and collaboratively with engineers, project managers, and technicians to develop and execute electrical designs for HPC systems. The position requires balancing facility needs with productivity and cost-effectiveness, and it is part of the Livermore Computing (LC) Program supporting the Weapons Simulation and Computing (WSC) department within the Strategic Deterrence (SD) Principal Directorate. This position requires full-time on-site presence. The role can be filled at either the Technical Coordinator (538.2) or Sr. Technical Coordinator (538.3) level, depending on the candidate's experience and qualifications. Additional responsibilities will be assigned if hired at the higher level.

Requirements

  • Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
  • Associate's degree in engineering technology or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Experience providing electrical coordination support requiring detailed knowledge of data center operations.
  • Experience with compliance to ES&H and security requirements and policies, and reporting hazards and potential hazards to supervision.
  • Experience coordinating the resolution of support problems to ensure meeting scheduled deadlines.
  • Intermediate skills and understanding of relevant technologies and processes including standards, codes, procedures and techniques related to coordination of data center electrical design and construction.
  • Experience in customer service or support organization and proven ability to interact with a diverse and demanding customer base.
  • Experience working independently and as a team member with effective problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities while meeting specific programmatic technical and reporting requirements.
  • Knowledge and understanding of conventional manufacturing and fabrication techniques, general electronics instrumentation, hardware and data acquisition systems, and mechanical equipment and hardware.
  • Effective written, verbal presentation, and interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with a diverse workforce.
  • Effective communication skills necessary to communicate with vendors, programmatic personnel and managers.
  • Knowledge of office computer software, common operating systems, and common word processing, spreadsheet, and databases.

  • Extensive experience providing electrical coordination support requiring detailed knowledge of data center operations (Additional requirement for 538.3 level).
  • Advanced technical skills and knowledge in equipment for the distribution and utilization of electrical energy in data centers (less than 600 Volts) (Additional requirement for 538.3 level).
  • Understanding of mechanical controls, building management systems, and electrical/mechanical distribution (Additional requirement for 538.3 level).
  • Understanding of test equipment, data acquisition, and instrumentation (Additional requirement for 538.3 level).
  • Experience coordinating the implementation of program or project support plans by contacting key personnel for design, fabrication, testing, procurement, and support (Additional requirement for 538.3 level).
  • Advanced experience handling multiple projects and complex tasks with frequent interruptions and conflicting/changing priorities (Additional requirement for 538.3 level).
  • Effective written, verbal, feedback and presentation communication skills (Additional requirement for 538.3 level).

Nice To Haves

  • Extensive experience complying with ES&H and security requirements and policies; identifying, reporting, and assisting with resolution of hazards or potential hazards.
  • Intermediate level knowledge and understanding of construction project execution and constructability.
  • Experience using Bluebeam and Adobe Acrobat to construct schedules, design, and drawings modifications.

Responsibilities

  • Execute and track multiple projects with frequently changing requirements and priorities while maintaining appropriate records and summaries to support project needs.
  • Provide advanced cooling and power support through specialized technical and administrative knowledge of utility grade HPC data centers.
  • Maintain and support the operation of the cooling and power for a multi-megawatt HPC data center and optimize its energy efficiency.
  • Collaborate effectively with scientists, engineers, designers, technicians, facilities personnel, internal organizations, and external vendors to provide technical electrical support on multiple large and small projects.
  • Support designers and engineers in reviewing drawings and electrical schematics and other related technical information while applying appropriate standards, procedures, and techniques.
  • Interpret construction drawings, P&IDs, electrical one-line diagrams, controls schematics, and related technical information to develop outage impacts.
  • Perform Energy Owner tasks including creating and executing multiple discipline outage procedures, obtaining the necessary approvals for the outages, communicating outage status, and scheduling outages with facilities personnel.
  • Coordinate and provide technical direction for multiple craft work activities during planned and unplanned outages.
  • Strictly adhere to laboratory safety and security guidelines, and regulations, and perform all assignments in accordance with Environment, Safety and Health (ES&H), security, and business practice requirements and policies.
  • Obtain Building Monitoring System (BMS) operator and user certification to operate and maintain the (BMS) (Additional responsibility for 538.3 level).
  • Develop operations & maintenance and training procedures and maintain existing documentation (Additional responsibility for 538.3 level).
  • Manage equipment maintenance database and spare parts inventory tracking. Develop new equipment requirement documents for vendor solicitation in conjunction with systems engineering and facility management staff (Additional responsibility for 538.3 level).
  • Evaluate and recommend design alternatives, supplier options, and substitute hardware or materials using established LLNL guidelines, techniques, and procedures (Additional responsibility for 538.3 level).
