About The Position

The Laboratory Technical Coordinator serves as a technical expert in assigned areas. They perform waived, moderate, and highly complex laboratory tests. This role assumes responsibility for teaching/training new employees and students, competency assessment, problem-solving, quality control, and regulatory compliance. The coordinator also performs supervisory duties and special assignments as delegated. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a chemical or biological science or medical technology from an accredited institution.
  • At least 2 years of laboratory experience in non-waived testing in the designated specialty or subspecialty areas.
  • ASCP eligible.
  • MLT (ASCP) or eligible.

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum of 2 years of clinical laboratory experience in the assigned discipline preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains technical expertise and competency in assigned area to perform patient testing as needed.
  • Collaborates with Laboratory Site Manager or Network Technical Specialist to maintain the Quality Management program.
  • Reviews the laboratory procedure manual biannually and submits revisions as necessary.
  • Assists or creates staff schedules, organizes, prioritizes, and oversees daily workload, and finds coverage for call-offs.
  • Reviews compliance with equipment maintenance and acts as a resource for troubleshooting technical and equipment operations.
  • Reviews quality control data, implements corrective action, documents actions, and informs management.
  • Reviews Proficiency testing results and investigates unacceptable results.
  • Reviews quality assurance reports, initiates investigation and root cause analysis, and documents follow-up.
  • Maintains inventory control and orders supplies.
  • Performs laboratory tests according to established protocols and procedures.
  • Follows established policies for accurate documentation of laboratory results.
  • Supervises daily activities in the absence of a supervisor.
  • Assists LIS Analysts in resolving computer problems.
  • Assesses and documents technical competency for staff.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
