About The Position

Databricks is hiring a Technical Business Development Manager to operate and grow its Startup and VC Ecosystem program. This is a technical, in-person role based in San Francisco, designed for regular engagement with founders and investors across the Bay Area. The role combines hands-on program operations, AI tool building, technical conversations with founders, and event production. Initially, the focus is on running the program, supporting founders, and organizing events; over time, the role is expected to take on broader relationships and strategy for how Databricks engages with the startup ecosystem. The position works closely with Databricks Ventures and with events and platform teams at leading venture firms.

Requirements

  • Genuine hands-on technical ability with AI, including building prototypes, reasoning about agent architecture, and understanding founders’ technology stacks.
  • Strong, hands-on proficiency with Databricks AI tooling such as Omnigent, Unity Gateway, and Agent Bricks.
  • Excellent program operations and attention to detail; able to manage complex, multi-track programs without losing track of applicants, commitments, or outcomes.
  • Developer-relations instincts, including credibility with builders and the ability to explain and teach technical concepts clearly.
  • Comfort engaging with early-stage founders and investors, and readiness to build relationships with leading venture firms.
  • Experience helping design and run events that people want to attend.
  • Ability to switch among technical work, operational execution, and strategic thinking.
  • Based in San Francisco and able to spend regular in-person time with founders and investors in the Bay Area.
  • Empathy for founders and a long-term perspective on their careers.

Nice To Haves

  • Background as a founder, early engineer, forward-deployed engineer, or solutions engineer.
  • Experience in B2B SaaS, AI and data infrastructure, or developer ecosystems.

Responsibilities

  • Run day-to-day startup program operations, including applicant intake, evaluation, scoring, routing, offer decisions, and tracking applicants, commitments, and outcomes.
  • Automate startup program operations using Databricks AI tools, including Omnigent, Unity Gateway, and Agent Bricks.
  • Own program trackers, automation, quality standards, and follow-through.
  • Hold technical conversations with early-stage founders about their models, agents, data, automation, and the fit of Databricks and Neon.
  • Build automation and internal tools that operate the program, and use AI tools hands-on to assess founders’ technical ideas.
  • Assess founders’ technical capabilities and ideas, and relay insights to Product and Databricks Ventures.
  • Design and run a regular calendar of founder and investor events in San Francisco, such as dinners, workshops, office hours, and demo-day tie-ins.
  • Work with events and platform teams at leading venture firms to co-produce gatherings and build durable relationships with those teams.
  • Represent Databricks as a founder-first, technically credible presence at founder and investor events.
  • Work with Databricks Ventures on founder engagement across their company journeys, growing toward broader ownership of the startup function.
