Under the direction of the Director, Facilities and Performance Spaces, the Technical Assistant is responsible for providing detailed explanations and demonstrating technical procedures to theatre crews, maintaining equipment and supply inventory, identifying and reporting facility repair and/or maintenance needs, and analyzing and recommending project changes.

Requirements

  • College Diploma (2 years) or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum three (3) years of production and technical theatre experience including experience with technical aspects of production (e.g. set, lighting, sound design).
  • Demonstrated experience working in a fly house theatre including safe operation of counterweight or rigging systems.
  • Experience providing detailed explanations and demonstrating technical procedures to theatre crew.
  • Knowledge of stage safety procedures and applicable health and safety regulations related to theatre production and backstage operations.
  • Experience conducting needs assessments for theatrical equipment renewal, maintenance and storage.
  • Experience providing technical direction to theatre staff.
  • Excellent skills with identifying, troubleshooting, and making minor equipment repairs.
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Excellent oral and written communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated time-management skills with the ability to effectively prioritize, multi-task and organize work, and meet tight deadlines while able to pay attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated skills and ability to provide effective guidance and advice to stakeholders in a responsive, empathetic, diplomatic, and thoughtful manner.
  • Valid Working at Heights and Standard First Aid certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Responding to enquiries within the defined scope of the role and redirecting as appropriate
