Join Our Team as a Technical Application Specialist/Engineer! The Technical Application Specialist/Engineer serves as a primary technical resource for S&C products, delivering application expertise, developing detailed technical quotations, and executing order entry processes while also managing projects through the implementation phase to ensure seamless execution and customer satisfaction. This role interfaces directly with customers, district managers, and internal stakeholders to provide precise product solutions aligned with engineering requirements. The Specialist also advises team members by sharing in-depth knowledge of product design, manufacturing processes, and internal workflows, driving both technical accuracy and operational efficiency within the department.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 2-4 years’ practical experience in application engineering systems, technical sales support or electrical engineering consultant.
  • Proven expertise in an applications or technical role, with in-depth knowledge of medium and high voltage products, their applications, and customization capabilities.
  • Foundational knowledge of electrical power distribution, generation, and transmission systems.
  • Basic knowledge of power systems to support the utility market and commercial and industrial market.
  • Knowledge of electrical standards for electrical equipment – CSA, ANSI, IEEE.
  • Working knowledge of power system protection and control applications for medium and high voltage electrical distribution.
  • Ability to interpret and analyze electrical schematic drawings and technical specifications.
  • Solid problem-solving capabilities, with experience evaluating complex technical scenarios and proposing optimal solutions independently and in collaborative environments.
  • Excellent time management, communication, and organizational skills, ensuring the effective handling of multiple projects.
  • Highly skilled in identifying issues and implementing solutions in a timely manner.
  • Proactively investigate root causes of recurring issues, implementing sustainable solutions to improve operational efficiency and reduce risk.
  • Demonstrate active listening and stakeholder awareness, integrating feedback and perspectives into business-aligned recommendations and decisions.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in Citrix, AutoCAD, Oracle EBS, and Salesforce is an asset.
  • Actively working towards P.Eng. designation is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and interpret customer specifications and single-line diagrams for transmission and distribution systems, providing timely technical guidance and solutions regarding S&C protection devices to customers and district managers.
  • Support S&C product offerings with customer specifications, identifying and addressing any technical deviations or gaps.
  • Review power utility service conditions in Canada, ensuring compliance with service entrance equipment requirements.
  • Offer pre-sales technical consultation to help potential customers resolve issues and design optimal solutions.
  • Serve as the liaison between internal teams (Product Engineers, Power System Services Engineers, Order Management, and Sales Engineers) and customers, delivering tailored solutions to district managers and clients.
  • Develop and deliver comprehensive technical proposals, including product recommendations, service options, and pricing strategies.
  • Contribute to pricing strategy efforts by providing observations and insights (e.g., targets, historical pricing trends, customer-specific feedback) to Sales team members to support competitive positioning.
  • Review and evaluate customer approval drawings, ensuring accurate implementation of design changes and addressing any required adjustments.
  • Lead and manage large, complex tender projects, ensuring all technical specifications are met.
  • Oversee pre-tender meetings, pre-sales order kick-off meetings, and post-sale order hand-off processes to ensure smooth transitions and customer satisfaction.
  • Participate in customer site visits and meetings as a technical expert, working with district managers to understand constraints and deliver precise switchgear layout designs.
  • Present S&C’s engineering insights, product solutions, and technical expertise to customers, demonstrating value and alignment with their needs.
  • Perform basic electrical and protection engineering calculations, including fault current analysis and fuse curve coordination.
  • Ensure internal teams and stakeholders are well informed of changes, problems, or decisions that impact them. Maintain calm and professionalism in fast-paced, challenging scenarios.
  • Advise and provide relevant customer insights and order updates with Outside Sales to support strategic account management.
  • Monitor and report on customer buying patterns and proactively flag gaps or anomalies to Outside Sales to enable better planning and maintain profitability and margin targets.
  • Anticipate potential issues based on trends and previous orders, taking steps to minimize disruptions and maintain customer satisfaction.
  • Track deliverables and key dates related to quotations, orders, shipping, and after-sales support for more complex projects, providing timely updates to Sales and customers.
