About The Position

NewPoint Real Estate Capital is seeking a Technical Accounting Director. This role will play a leadership role in the Company’s financial reporting, technical accounting, internal controls, and SEC filing processes. This individual will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and compliance of external financial reporting and will serve as a key technical accounting resource for complex matters involving real estate finance, debt investments, securities, derivatives, consolidation, fair value, CECL, revenue recognition, and other financial instruments. The role will partner closely with Finance, Legal, Asset Management, Operations, auditors, and senior leadership to support SEC reporting, accounting policy development, SOX compliance, audit coordination, and technical accounting analysis. The ideal candidate will bring strong public company reporting experience, deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP and SEC requirements, excellent writing skills, and the ability to advise senior stakeholders on complex accounting and reporting matters.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; CPA required.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in technical accounting, SEC reporting, public accounting, financial reporting, or a combination thereof.
  • Public company reporting experience required; experience with REITs, real estate finance, investment management, credit, mortgage finance, or financial services preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, SEC reporting rules, SOX 404 requirements, and financial statement disclosure requirements.
  • Excellent technical research, analytical, writing, and documentation skills.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines, filing calendars, audits, and cross-functional deliverables.
  • Ability to communicate complex accounting and reporting matters clearly to senior executives, auditors, legal counsel, and non-accounting stakeholders.
  • High attention to detail, sound judgment, and ability to operate independently in a fast-paced public company environment.
  • Public accounting experience required.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills required

Nice To Haves

  • experience with REITs, real estate finance, investment management, credit, mortgage finance, or financial services preferred.
  • Experience with ASC 810 Consolidation, ASC 820 Fair Value Measurement, ASC 326 CECL, ASC 842 Leases, derivatives, debt investments, and other financial instruments preferred.
  • experience with Workiva/Wdesk, Yardi, or similar accounting and reporting systems preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee technical accounting research and prepare clear, well-supported accounting memoranda addressing complex transactions and emerging accounting issues.
  • Support the preparation and review of SEC filings, including Forms 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, financial statement footnotes, MD&A, earnings-related disclosures, and other public reporting materials.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting requirements, including areas such as consolidation, fair value measurements, CECL, leases, derivatives, revenue recognition, and investment accounting.
  • Monitor new accounting standards, SEC rulemaking, and industry developments; assess the impact on the Company and lead implementation efforts where applicable.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to evaluate the accounting and reporting implications of new transactions, financing arrangements, investments, entity structures, and strategic initiatives.
  • Support the Company’s SOX 404 compliance program, including control design, documentation, testing coordination, deficiency evaluation, and remediation efforts.
  • Act as a primary liaison with external auditors on technical accounting matters.
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance accounting policies, reporting procedures, disclosure controls, and internal control documentation.
  • Review financial statements and disclosures for accuracy, consistency, completeness, and compliance with GAAP, SEC requirements, and internal standards.
  • Provide technical accounting guidance and training to accounting, finance, and operational teams.
  • Drive process improvements across the SEC reporting, close, audit, and control environments, including opportunities to improve automation, workflow, documentation, and review procedures.
  • Lead special projects and ad hoc analyses related to financial reporting, technical accounting, and transaction support.
