About The Position

This role is to serve as the organization's subject-matter expert on complex U.S. GAAP matters, including variable interest entity (VIE) consolidation, hypothetical liquidation at book value (HLBV) accounting for tax equity partnerships, and technical accounting for acquisitions and project financings. This role reports to the Controller and partners closely with the Controller, CIO, FP&A team, tax, and external auditors to ensure the company's accounting positions are well-researched, well-documented, and audit-ready across a complex, multi-entity structure.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, with a foundation in public accounting, renewable energy industry, or technical accounting strongly preferred.
  • Active CPA license required.
  • Deep working knowledge of U.S. GAAP, with demonstrated experience researching and documenting complex technical accounting positions (ASC 810, 606, 842, 323, 360, 740 and related areas).
  • Experience working within a multi-entity or consolidated organizational structure; comfort navigating complexity across a large number of legal entities.
  • Strong written communication skills, with the ability to translate technical accounting conclusions into clear memos for auditors and leadership.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with renewable energy, tax equity structures, or project finance accounting (including HLBV) is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Own technical accounting within Sage Intacct on complex transactions, including VIE consolidation analysis, accounting for tax equity structures, revenue recognition (PPAs and RECs), leases, asset impairment, income and property taxes, and business combinations.
  • Evaluate the accounting implications of new project acquisitions, financings, capitalization of costs, and partnership flip structures, and advise on GAAP treatment.
  • Manage the consolidation of the entity structure, ensuring accurate elimination entries and non-controlling/tax equity interest allocations across 100+ entities.
  • Partner with the Controller and accounting operations team to ensure technical positions are properly reflected in the close process and financial statements.
  • Develop and maintain accounting policies, technical memos, and internal controls documentation to support a scalable, audit-ready control environment.
  • Monitor and assess the impact of new and proposed accounting standards (FASB/GAAP updates) on the company and lead implementation efforts.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to accounting staff on complex accounting matters as the entity structure and portfolio grow.
