About The Position

The purpose of this role is to inspect manufactured products to ensure compliance and conformance to Quality standards. This involves distinguishing major/minor defect levels within regards to product fit/form/function, identifying products as Pass or Fail, and communicating daily with supervision and plant personnel about quality concerns. The role also includes conducting product quality audits, assisting with developing sampling plans, working with manufacturing to improve inspection efficiency, and completing various audit actions such as changeover approvals, first piece/last piece approvals, process control checks, GMP/Food Safety audits, and 5S. Additionally, the position involves processing sample requests, interpreting standards and specifications, completing Certificates of Analysis, performing gauge calibration, conducting quality testing, entering data, performing basic statistical analysis, maintaining quality reports, coordinating heldware and rework, and participating in quality-related processes like HACCP plan refinement. The Lead is expected to mentor and train new employees and act as backup for the SQF Practitioner. In the absence of the Quality Technician-Lead, their responsibilities will be fulfilled as designated by the Plant Manager.

Requirements

  • Must be able to communicate well with others.
  • Intermediate Computer Skills.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English.
  • Knowledge of Food Safety.
  • HACCP Certification required.
  • Minimum One (1) year experience with SQF (certification preferred).

  • Successful completion of HACCP and SQF Practitioner course is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Inspects products for defects as described by quality standards, focusing on distinguishing major/minor defect levels within regards to product fit/form/function.
  • Identifies and determines products as Pass or Fail based on Quality standards.
  • Alerts and advises supervision of potentially defective products.
  • Provides Pass/No-Pass samples for machine sample boards and sample parts for shift production meetings.
  • Communicates daily with supervision and plant personnel to stay informed of current quality concerns.
  • Follows plant quality practices including Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
  • Conducts product quality audits per shift per machine according to procedures.
  • Assists with developing sampling plans for re-inspection.
  • Completes audit actions in all areas of the plant: Changeover & setup approvals, First piece/last piece approvals, Process control checks, GMP/Food Safety audits, 5S.
  • Completes Sample Request processing as directed.
  • Interprets standards and specification from a Quality standpoint.
  • Set-up and complete Certificates of Analysis as required.
  • Perform gauge calibration and tracks calibration history.
  • Performs quality testing using laboratory measuring equipment.
  • Enters data accurately in Excel or SPC software.
  • Capable of performing basic statistical data analysis.
  • Maintains quality reports, including re-inspection/rework results.
  • Coordinate and manage heldware and rework process.
  • Participate as a Quality subject matter expert in start-up and qualification processes.
  • Participates in defining/refining Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) plan.
  • Has teamwork ability to lead a functional team in inspection techniques or improvements.
  • Works with little or no supervision for day to day duties and quality decisions.
  • Has ability to determine disposition of material by weighing risk against defect levels to protect both customer and business needs.
  • Has the ability to work on CAPA and can assist in root cause analysis.
  • Schedule breaks and lunches.
  • Is backup for the SQF Practitioner.
  • Mentor and train new employees.
  • Follows plant safety procedures and guidelines.
  • Knows emergency procedures and what to do in the event of power outages, machine failures, workplace injuries, etc.
  • Wears and utilizes personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
  • Understands and identifies Lock-out/Tag-out procedures.
  • Informs supervisor of safety issues; reports any workplace injury or incident immediately.
