About The Position

The Tech Manager, Data Engineering leads the development, governance, and delivery of scalable data products that advance Macy’s enterprise technology and business strategies. The Tech Manager ensures teams build high-quality, reliable data pipelines and solutions that meet the evolving needs of analytics, data science, and business operations. This role establishes engineering best practices, fosters cross-functional collaboration, and drives outcomes that enhance data accessibility, integrity, and innovation across the organization.

Requirements

  • Advanced proficiency in Python, SQL, and modern ETL/ELT frameworks to build scalable and reliable data solutions.
  • Ability to guide engineering direction, elevate team performance, and foster cross-functional alignment.
  • Skilled at communicating complex technical concepts clearly to business partners and senior leadership.
  • Ability to prioritize and execute initiatives that advance enterprise technology and business objectives.
  • Experienced in applying Agile methodologies to drive iterative development, transparency, and predictable outcomes.
  • Demonstrates curiosity for emerging technologies and inspires teams to adopt innovative approaches.
  • Ensures adherence to data governance standards and enterprise architecture guidelines while maintaining high-quality pipelines.
  • Cultivates a collaborative, product-focused engineering culture that supports high-performing teams.
  • Candidates with a bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in a related field are encouraged to apply.
  • 8+ years of experience building comprehensive cloud-based data pipelines in a large organization.
  • 2+ years leading cross-functional projects.
  • Regularly required to sit, talk, hear; use hands/fingers to touch, handle, and feel.
  • Occasionally required to move about the workplace and reach with hands and arms.
  • Requires close vision.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule based on department and company needs.

Responsibilities

  • Hire, mentor, and coach engineering talent to build strong, high-performing teams.
  • Guide teams to align architectures, standards, and technical strategies with enterprise frameworks.
  • Cultivate a collaborative, product-focused engineering culture grounded in Agile practices.
  • Define priorities, strategies, and delivery approaches across assigned data engineering portfolios or domains.
  • Oversee the execution of data pipelines, integrations, ETL processes, and data quality frameworks.
  • Ensure compliance with data governance standards and enterprise architecture guidelines.
  • Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships, and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities.
  • In addition to the essential duties mentioned above, other duties may be assigned.
