About The Position

Nuro is seeking a Technical Lead for Fleet Connectivity to define and build the foundation for two-way communication between Nuro’s autonomous fleets and the cloud. This role involves ownership of networking infrastructure, telemetry, and routing for critical data flow at scale. The technical leader will drive the architecture of fault-tolerant software across cellular and Wi-Fi networks, evaluate new connectivity hardware, and work with modems and commercial cellular networks to optimize throughput and stability. The position requires leveraging advanced cellular bonding technologies to deliver a robust networking backbone for Vehicle APIs, in-depot connections, continuous telemetry, and low-latency data streaming for remote assistance. This is a highly cross-functional and high-impact role requiring close collaboration with hardware, autonomy, and operations teams to develop tools for optimizing connectivity trends and resolving fleet issues. The ideal candidate will translate ambiguous requirements into cohesive system designs, mentor engineers, and shape the long-term architectural vision of Nuro’s safety-critical autonomous vehicles.

Requirements

  • Strong proficiency in C, C++, Go, Python, or similar languages.
  • Exceptional ability to turn ambiguous, high-level requirements into detailed, cohesive system designs and architecture spanning multiple components.
  • Deep technical expertise in debugging and tooling of cellular modems, Linux network stacks, and networking protocols.
  • 8+ years of relevant industry experience with a proven track record of acting as a Tech Lead on complex software projects.
  • BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, or a related technical field.

Responsibilities

  • Establish the technical roadmap and architectural vision for fleet connectivity, ensuring observability, security, and reliability of cellular network components and network software during robot start-up and autonomous operation.
  • Drive system design for highly scalable, fault-tolerant connectivity solutions, leading software efforts for Nuro’s next-gen platforms.
  • Lead high-impact technical initiatives, working closely with upstream and downstream stakeholder teams to define system requirements and implement overarching connectivity strategies.
  • Spearhead the development of advanced analysis tools, dashboards, and automation frameworks to track, measure, and optimize connectivity trends from operational data.
  • Serve as the technical authority for the team, providing high-level design guidance, code reviews, and technical mentorship for both junior and senior engineers.
