About The Position

Speechify is seeking a Senior Android Engineer to join their fully distributed team. With over 50 million users, Speechify's text-to-speech products aim to remove reading barriers for learning. The company's Android app is the most used text-to-speech app in the Play Store, and this role is crucial for supporting its growth and developing new features. Requirements

5+ years of software engineering experience.
Familiarity with Android components.
Experience building or contributing to at least one Android app.
Product design intuition and user empathy.
Drive to push the boundaries of Android UI/UX.
Understanding of the importance of tests and how to approach writing them.
Self-drive to improve the app and codebase beyond specified requirements.
Rock solid experience with Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android Animations, Jetpack Navigation, JUnit tests.
Excellent communication skills.
User-oriented problem-solving approach.
Driven by continuous feedback from leaders.

Nice To Haves

Experience building, maintaining, or otherwise contributing to open-source projects in Android.
Experience with iOS, Web, or NodeJS.

Responsibilities

Owning major features and working closely with the design team to deliver high-quality features within the app.
Shaping the future of the Android team.
Owning, maintaining, and improving reliability metrics for key features.
Participating in cross-team discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering.
Reviewing pull requests and supporting teammates.
Handling critical issues and unexpected challenges.
Taking ownership of feature releases and providing nightly builds for the QA team.
