About The Position
Speechify is seeking a Senior Android Engineer to support the growth of its Android app, which is the most used text-to-speech app in the Play Store. This role is crucial for supporting the existing user base and developing new features to drive the company forward. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker who thrives in fast-paced environments, is passionate about product decisions, and has a proven track record of building exceptional user experiences. Speechify operates as a flat organization where leadership is earned through technical expertise and consistent delivery. A strong work ethic, excellent communication skills, and a drive to succeed are essential. The company aims to complete its interview process, which includes several technical interviews, within one week.
Requirements
- 5+ years of software engineering experience.
- Familiarity with Android components.
- Experience building or contributing to at least one Android app.
- Product design intuition and user empathy.
- Drive to push the boundaries of Android UI/UX.
- Understanding of the importance of tests and how to approach writing them.
- Self-drive to improve the app and codebase beyond specified requirements.
- Solid experience with Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android Animations, Jetpack Navigation, JUnit tests.
- Excellent communication skills.
- User-oriented problem-solving approach.
- Driven by continuous feedback from leaders.
Nice To Haves
- Experience building, maintaining, or otherwise contributing to open-source projects in Android.
- Experience with iOS, Web, or NodeJS.
Responsibilities
- Owning major features and working closely with the design team to deliver high-quality features within the app.
- Shaping the future of the Android team.
- Owning, maintaining, and improving reliability metrics for key features.
- Participating in cross-functional discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams.
- Reviewing pull requests and supporting teammates.
- Handling critical issues and unexpected challenges.
- Taking ownership of feature releases and providing nightly builds for the QA team.
