About The Position

The role is for a Manager, Data Analytics & Business Intelligence at Pearson Higher Education, located in Hoboken (Hybrid). Pearson is a global digital learning company. The role involves leading product analytics for Pearson's Higher Education courseware, integrations, and content authoring portfolio, which are used by millions of students and tens of thousands of instructors. The primary goal is to ensure product teams make better decisions using data by understanding user behavior, measuring performance, proving the effectiveness of ideas through experimentation, informing product decisions with evidence, and inspiring new product opportunities. The manager will lead a small team of product analysts and report into the HE product organization, emphasizing analytics as a product capability rather than a service desk function.

Requirements

  • 8+ years in product analytics, with at least 2-3 years managing analysts.
  • Demonstrable bias toward outcomes over outputs, with the ability to point to product decisions, experiments, or roadmap changes driven by led analysis and their resulting impact.
  • Fluency in the product operating model, with experience working directly with empowered product teams.
  • Strong experimentation skills, including designing, sizing, and interpreting tests, and advising on when not to run them.
  • Technical depth in SQL (BigQuery, Snowflake), product analytics tools (Mixpanel or equivalent), and Tableau.
  • Hands-on capability to run analyses personally.
  • Sharp communication skills, able to engage with senior product and engineering leaders and translate ambiguity into clear questions and answers.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the product analytics team, managing, coaching, and growing product analysts, setting standards for analytical rigor, communication, and product partnership.
  • Partner with product leadership on strategy, participating in roadmap and quarterly planning, bringing a data perspective to prioritization, and ensuring proposed work has measurable outcomes.
  • Own the HE product KPI framework, defining key metrics for commercial performance and learning outcomes, and ensuring teams can access them in near real-time.
  • Drive instrumentation and telemetry by working with engineering and data platform teams to define measurement strategies, treating instrumentation as a critical product requirement.
  • Lead and scale experimentation by building the necessary infrastructure, tooling expectations, and cultural norms for testing across HE products.
  • Surface opportunities through regular discovery-oriented analyses across the portfolio, bringing forward insights that can influence roadmaps.
  • Communicate effectively with executives, translating analysis into actionable narratives for HE and Pearson leadership.
  • Govern data quality by upholding standards for definitions, lineage, and trustworthiness to ensure accurate decision-making.
