About The Position

ENCYCLIS, formerly known as Covanta Europe, is a leader in the energy from waste industry. They generate sustainable electricity for homes and businesses from non-recyclable waste. The ash from the process is recycled into building materials, and metals are recovered for re-use. Their facilities are advanced, featuring state-of-the-art equipment and tools, prioritizing safety and employee success. Encyclis is building a new Energy Recovery Facility in Walsall, which will be a sustainable alternative to landfill, using residual waste to generate clean electricity. This facility is expected to commence operations in 2027 and will handle over 436,000 tonnes of waste annually, generating enough electricity for over 90,000 homes.

Requirements

Broad background in fuel/material management and handling activities.
Previous experience with large mobile plant is essential.

Nice To Haves

National Vocational Qualification Level 3 or 2 in a leadership, management, or a technical subject.
Relevant other qualifications with energy recovery or large process plant experience.
Previous experience in Process or Power Plant is desirable.

Responsibilities

Supervise the team and carry out day-to-day operational activities safely, efficiently, and in line with Encyclis’ procedures.
Ensure the facility is operationally compliant with the environment permit and local authority planning.
Supervise the transportation of large volumes of municipal waste, bottom ash, and residues.
Ensure the safe and effective operation of the tipping hall and weighbridges.
Responsible for the safe and compliant operation of the Weighbridge, Tipping Hall and Ash Hall.
Take an active decision-making role within the team and supervise the day operations team.
Coordinate, operate, and supervise waste and residue facilities, site housekeeping, on-site traffic management, and operate mobile plant and waste cranes in accordance with Encyclis’ procedures and risk assessments.
Carry out first-line vehicle maintenance and inspections required for the safe operation of mobile plant.
Perform routine site and mobile plant housekeeping to maintain excellent standards.
Conduct H&S monitoring and performance, including safety inspections, plant inspections, plant area responsibilities, and participate in routine H&S meetings and forums.
Support the development and review of Encyclis’ Day Operations procedures, safe working practices, and risk assessments.
Participate in operational improvement processes, coordinate corrective actions, defect notifications, and rectification.
Support the induction and training of new and existing staff, and drivers.
Perform weighbridge operations, including delivering driver inductions, waste acceptance, operating the weighbridge system, reporting, and managing non-conforming deliveries.
Ensure all operational logs and records are maintained and any facility or vehicle defects are reported in a timely manner.
Manage waste crane operations, including bunker stock management, removal of non-conforming waste, fire protection systems, waste hopper feeding, and coordination with the shift operations team.
Load ash residues into vehicle trailers and ensure the safe operation of the ash handling hall and conveyor systems.
Manage tipping hall operations, including traffic management, safe operation and monitoring of exclusion zones and tipping points, routine visual waste inspections, housekeeping, and reporting non-conforming deliveries and incidents.
Manage the facility day operations team, including Day Operators (material handlers), Industrial Cleaners, and agency workers.
Perform supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Encyclis’ policies, procedures, and legislation.
Support recruitment and training requirements and carry out routine performance appraisals for direct reports.
