About The Position

Book Depot Inc. is seeking a permanent, full-time Team Leader for their afternoon shift in the Sorting department at the Thorold Distribution Centre. This role involves supporting the department group leader and team members while efficiently handling books with a high degree of accuracy. Requirements

  • Completion of grade 12 education or equivalent.
  • Positive attitude, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work in a high-performing and fast-paced work environment.
  • Good understanding of computers.
  • Good English communication skills (oral and written).
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify and share continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Ability to work independently while being part of a team.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated experience coaching, training, and mentoring within a warehouse setting.

Responsibilities

  • Working afternoon shifts (Tuesday to Saturday, 3:30 p.m. to 12:15 a.m., with potential for additional time as needed) to support the department.
  • Collaborating with the Group Leader to understand team performance metrics and mentoring team members to achieve optimal results.
  • Coaching, mentoring, and training team members on process improvements and practices, and leading the onboarding of new hires.
  • Identifying and resolving issues affecting team engagement and performance, with support from the Group Leader.
  • Ensuring team members are aware of and comply with company policies and practices.
  • Promoting a clean, organized, safe, and supportive team environment.
  • Upholding safe work practices in accordance with Book Depot Inc.’s Health and Safety Program.
  • Identifying and participating in process improvements, including Lean initiatives and other projects.
  • Regularly lifting totes and boxes weighing approximately 45 lbs.
  • Working effectively with team members and completing book-handling tasks in various departments (sorting, restock, shipping).
  • Performing book-handling tasks that require all-day standing and repetitive movements such as bending, squatting, and lifting.
  • Maintaining Book Depot Inc.’s standards for productivity and accuracy.
  • Utilizing warehouse management computer software to ensure inventory and/or customer order accuracy.
  • Performing other related responsibilities as required.
