About The Position

The Team Leader leads by example, plays an essential role in being a strong problem-solver overseeing group tasks and training Animal Care Technicians. Team Leads perform routine and specialized duties as well as partner and assist in operational planning, work instructions, standard operating procedures, policies and directing the work of our technicians.   • Shower daily upon arrival and wear company issued attire
  • Lift up to 50lbs on occasion
  • Stand/walk on concrete for at least 2 - 6 hours at a time
  • Frequently bend, reach, push, pull, squat and lift
  • English Communication - reading, writing and oral

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced education in Animal Science or Business preferred
  • Prior leadership experience
  • 1-3 years' experience in Animal Care / PSS

Responsibilities

  • Perform all the duties of a Laboratory Animal Care Technician and support department shipping duties.
  • Direct day-to-day workload for assigned teams and training technicians on relevant techniques and information to meet, exceed production goals and standards.
  • Ensure all procedures are conducted in compliance with Animal Welfare regulations, AALAC, Quality documents, health and safety, ISO 9001, and IACUC regulations.
  • Evaluation and discernment of issues, concerns, and escalate accordingly.
  • Continuous improvement mindset: Oversee and suggest improvements in workflows.
  • Daily responsibilities include room, colony and technician performance optimization, collecting samples, shipping and check-on’s for accurate and timely completion.
  • Assessment of compliance for inventory management meeting reporting deadlines.
  • Continually monitor, practice and enforce biosecurity requirements and measures.
  • Effectively provide support including coaching, development, and real-time balanced feedback on employee performance fortifying the team, department and organization.
  • Promote a culture of safety, trust, respect, accountability, collaboration, and teamwork ensuring development of professional technicians.
  • High volume documentation handling, editing, monitoring, retrieving, sending, receiving, and completion including production worksheets and colony manager.
  • Assure compliance with assigned colony levels and production goals while maintaining accurate records.
  • Understanding of genotype results for animal selection for example the project cohort or Retired Breeder stock (where applicable)
  • Sense of urgency when reporting incidents or injuries within established procedures.
  • Course correct and guide technician practices, methods or work styles to alignment with the organization and address such incidents with documented training, record keeping.
  • Perform other duties consistent with the needs of the organization as assigned.
