About The Position

The RN Team Lead acts as a leader on the unit, collaborating with management for daily planning and coordination. This role involves delegating patient care, developing staff, teaching, precepting, committee work, quality improvement, and participating in evidence-based practice and research. The Team Leader is accountable for coordinating nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education, and transitions of care, supporting professional nursing practice across various settings. The TL functions within the Mayo Nursing Care Model, encompassing planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating all phases of nursing care. Direct clinical care may be required, guided by the ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice. This role is eligible for TN sponsorship, requiring state licensure and VisaScreen or equivalent certification.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an associate degree or diploma in a nursing program.
  • One year of RN experience in an applicable care setting.
  • Experience working in a team environment.
  • Ability to work autonomously and in a team environment, making decisions and directing work and patient flow to achieve maximum work unit efficiency.
  • Demonstrated leadership, effective communicator, and excellent critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the work setting.
  • Computer skills required.
  • Current RN licensure by applicable state requirements.
  • Maintains current Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers from one of the following programs: American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or US Military Training Network.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with electronic medical record systems preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency in work unit specialty area preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as a formal and informal leader on the unit.
  • Participates and collaborates with management staff to assist with the daily planning and coordination of the assigned work unit.
  • Delegates patient care according to skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability, and availability of resources.
  • Provides leadership through activities that include development of staff, teaching, precepting, committee work, quality improvements and participation in evidence-based practice and research.
  • Accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education and transitions of care.
  • Supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family.
  • Functions within the Mayo Nursing Care Model, which includes accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients.
  • May be required to provide direct clinical care.
