Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university in histology, biology or having emphasized anatomical, biological, and chemical sciences and minimum 2 years laboratory experience; or Associate of Science degree from an accredited college/university in histology, biology or having emphasized anatomical, biological, and chemical science required and a minimum 4 years laboratory experience.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong leadership skills and demonstrated good judgment in dealing with a variety of procedural and technical issues

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in test development and immunohistochemistry preferred
  • HT or HTL (ASCP)
  • A Florida State Clinical Laboratory Technologist Supervisor License is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Processing, embedding, and microtomy of all surgical tissues
  • Frozen section staining
  • Routine H&E and special staining such as electrommicrotomy, immunoflourscence, and immunohistochemistry
  • Tissue processing
  • Equipment maintenance and record retention
  • Knowledge of pathology Laboratory Information System
  • Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the histology department in the absence of the histology supervisor
  • Maintains complete and accurate documentation of data generated and work performed
  • Assists in Quality Management and problem solving
  • Participates in testing and implementation of new equipment
  • Develops protocols and QC slides
  • Helps train new personnel
  • Monitors supplies as needed
  • Helps coordinate staff shift coverage and workload distribution
  • Assists in other activities as directed
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the department
  • May be responsible for handling chemicals and/or reagents including chemical hazardous waste materials
