About The Position

AtkinsRéalis is growing and our Engineering Services group is seeking a Team Lead - Fire Protection to join our growing Fire Protection Engineering team in Ottawa, ON. In this role, our team lead will support the execution of a wide variety of projects by providing technical expertise, leadership to staff, and support for business development activities. This includes collaboration with or overseeing a team of engineers, technologists, and technicians, leading the design, development, and implementation of fire protection systems, while also providing technical guidance and mentorship. Technical knowledge of complex fire protection systems, code consulting and experience as a consulting engineer will set your application apart. Our Engineering Services team in Ottawa is dynamic and tight-knit, servicing local projects while contributing to large national and international projects as part of distributed virtual project teams. Our projects are varied and span Nuclear, National Defense, Light + Heavy Industrial, Transportation (Rail + Transit, Ports + Marines +Tunnels), Municipal, Federal, and Institutional industries.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, or diploma in fire protection engineering technology, or related field.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in the field of fire protection engineering.
  • Experience supervising, mentoring, and motivating a team of engineers and designers.
  • Demonstrable experience building and maintaining long-term relationships with clients (i.e. understanding client objectives, anticipating and meeting client needs, and growing our business).
  • Strong business acumen and client facing skills.
  • Strong knowledge of fire protection engineering principles and relevant industry standards.
  • Willing to travel occasionally within and outside of your province of residence.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional engineering license or certification from engineering association is an asset.
  • AutoCAD or Revit experience is an asset.
  • Candidates with experience in buildings projects, including complex nuclear, defence, and rail projects, will be given priority.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee human resources for your team, acting either as a technical mentor, project manager, or team leader.
  • Participate in and/or lead the design, development, and implementation of projects, including Functional Planning, Preliminary Design, Detailed Design, and Construction Administration services.
  • Support the Director, Fire Protection, Canada in implementing methods and procedures aligned with corporate standards.
  • Lead and support business development initiatives, including proposal writing and strategic planning for the Mechanical and Electrical Engineering group not only in Ottawa, but across Canada.
  • Prepare and approve estimates, proposals, and technical bid evaluations.
  • Build and maintain strong internal and external client relationships to support business growth and ensure client satisfaction.
  • Assess project resource requirements and participate in continuous HR processes (recruitment, performance evaluations, resource development plans, training, feedback, etc).
  • Contribute to evaluations and training to ensure all team members are properly trained and qualified.
  • Collaborating with other engineering disciplines and communicating project status, issues, and solutions to stakeholders, including clients, management, and other departments to ensure successful project outcomes.
  • Oversee QA/QC processes for accuracy and consistency of deliverables.
  • Provide technical support during construction activities and work with contractors to quickly resolve onsite issues and ensure conformance to design requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement in processes, tools, and project delivery efficiency.
