About The Position

The Team Lead will be the team leader for the Facility Assessment consulting practice responsible for executing assigned Facility Assessment deliverables. The Team Lead, Facility Assessments will apply project management practices (scope, time and cost), customer service, building condition assessment processes and technical standards in leading a team to perform and validate specialized asset assessments for the purpose of identifying asset condition, deficiencies and expected renewal needs at client facilities. Projects are typically of low to moderate risk and exposure. Estimated travel for site assessments is approximately 20-40% annually. The Team Lead will be assigned specific client facility assessment programs and/or projects and will oversee a team of assessors to provide mentoring, coaching and guidance and ensure successful delivery of customer engagement, quality and timely reports, resource efficiency, accurate data integrity, and accountability.

Requirements

  • University degree or college diploma in a relevant field such as architecture, an engineering discipline, or building science.
  • 5 -10 years of relevant work experience.
  • Fundamental knowledge of American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) Practice E2018-15 “Standard Guide for Property Condition Assessments: Baseline Property Condition Assessment Process”.
  • Fundamental knowledge of building science including base knowledge of all areas of study - architectural building envelope, mechanical and electrical building systems, and site components.
  • Specialized knowledge in a field of study - architectural, structural, building envelope, or mechanical building systems.
  • General knowledge of general building design, construction, and facility operation of commercial buildings.
  • Understanding of national and provincial codes.
  • CSA ASC B651-23 Accessible Design for Building Environment, Accessibility Canada Act, AODA, other provincial guidelines.
  • Advanced knowledge of cost estimates for maintenance, repair, and renewal of building systems and components.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Strong organizational, documentation and reporting skills.
  • Strong written/verbal communication skills are mandatory.
  • Strong problem solving and decision-making skills are mandatory.
  • Ability to multi-task independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to learn new technology, tools, software programs.
  • Detailed-oriented that is reflected in high quality deliverables.
  • Proficiency to read architectural/MEP drawings.
  • Computer and Microsoft proficiency.
  • Ability to work at heights.
  • Valid driver’s license, passport, and vehicle access.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a dedicated technical assessor and project manager on specific programs/projects involving various facility assessments for BGIS clients, including commercial, institutional, and industrial clients across North America.
  • Support the launch of new business services, pilot programs, and new tools/technologies, guiding and training team members.
  • Prepare proposals defining scope, deliverables, requirements, timelines, and budgets.
  • Lead communication with key stakeholders regarding logistics, schedules, project progress, and health and safety issues.
  • Document and maintain full Building Condition Assessment (BCA) processes for each client program.
  • Apply specialized knowledge of building condition assessment processes and technical standards to conduct asset assessments.
  • Identify and evaluate specialized asset component and systems conditions and deficiencies.
  • Complete asset assessment condition reports using various asset assessment management software.
  • Provide recommendations and cost estimates for repair or lifecycle renewal of building components and systems for client capital budget plans.
  • Continuously incorporate best practices to optimize program delivery and client value.
  • Prioritize and perform competing tasks on multiple programs and projects.
  • Perform complex facility assessments, with travel up to 20-40% annually.
  • Support end-to-end project management of assessment programs and group functions.
  • Lead project management of individual programs/projects under management supervision.
  • Identify project risks and develop/implement mitigation and contingency plans.
  • Create, maintain, and track project schedules/maps, work orders, and deliverables in dashboards.
  • Implement tools, technology, and software for client-specific reporting and deliverables.
  • Communicate monthly project status and monthly/weekly schedules to key stakeholders.
  • Develop strong client service orientation and maintain internal relationships.
  • Review and update facility assessment staff training processes and documents.
  • Perform weekly technical reviews of report submissions and provide feedback for data quality control.
  • Perform detailed technical reviews for new team member deliverables.
  • Track project deliverable progress weekly.
  • Identify costs and risks associated with poor performance and non-compliance.
  • Perform monthly financial tracking of deliverables and update financial software.
  • Manage the quality and timeliness of deliverables for assigned team members.
  • Model mature and reliable team leadership with emotional intelligence.
  • Participate in the recruitment of resources.
  • Provide mentoring, coaching, and guidance to all team members.
  • Provide technical feedback and quality control on project deliverables.
  • Ensure adherence to all program processes.
  • Ensure H&S forms and Work At Heights certificates are updated.
  • Resolve issues arising from unforeseen emergencies and work incidents.
  • Adapt quickly to change, setting an example for team members.
