Team Lead - Electrical & Control

EastmanKingsport, TN

About The Position

The Control Wiring Design team sits at the intersection of electrical engineering and instrumentation, turning complex control system requirements into the precise, constructable wiring documentation that makes capital projects come to life in the field. This team owns a critical thread of every project — from the earliest design phases through commissioning — producing loop drawings, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, cable routing designs, and interconnection documentation that field crews and engineers depend on to bring industrial systems online safely and reliably. The Team Lead for this group has a unique opportunity to shape how that work gets done, mentoring a team of specialists, driving technical quality across multiple concurrent capital projects, and serving as the wiring design authority at the table with instrumentation, electrical, and process disciplines. For someone with a deep control design background who takes pride in the craft of translating complex control architectures into clean, accurate documentation, this role offers both the technical challenge and the leadership platform to make a lasting impact on how Eastman builds and grows its facilities.

Requirements

  • Non-Engineering Technical Bachelor's Degree 5–7 years of progressive experience in control wiring and electrical design, with demonstrated ownership of design deliverables and some supervisory or mentoring history.
  • Associate's Degree in Electrical or Instrumentation Technology or related program 7+ years of hands-on experience in control wiring design in industrial or capital project environments.
  • A strong capital project portfolio and demonstrated technical leadership are essential at this level.
  • Control wiring and interconnection drawing development — loop sheets, wiring diagrams, junction box layouts, and panel wiring — is the core competency.
  • Instrument and control panel design, including marshalling cabinets, terminal block layouts, and field junction boxes.
  • Cable and conduit design, including instrument cable tray routing, cable sizing, and segregation of power, signal, and data circuits.
  • Grounding and shielding practices for instrumentation and signal wiring in an industrial environment.
  • Electrical area classification and hazardous location wiring methods (NEC, NFPA 70, ISA standards) as they apply to field devices and control wiring.
  • Reading and interpreting P&IDs, instrument indexes, I/O lists, and cause-and-effect diagrams to drive physical wiring design.
  • Familiarity with relevant electrical and instrumentation standards (NEC, NFPA 70, ISA-5.1, ISA-TR20.00.01).
  • Experience with wiring design tools such as AutoCAD, EPLAN, or similar platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Providing technical oversight and work coordination for a team of control wiring designers and engineers, reviewing and approving deliverables (loop drawings, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, cable schedules, and terminal block schedules), managing workload across multiple concurrent capital projects, and coordinating with instrumentation, electrical, and process discipline leads.
  • Interfacing with control system engineers to ensure physical wiring design aligns with system architecture, without owning the programming or configuration scope.
  • Experience managing control wiring design scope within capital projects through all phases — feasibility, FEED, detailed design, construction support, and commissioning.
  • Supporting field wiring verification during construction and startup, and understanding how the design scope ties into overall project schedules and budgets.
  • Cross-discipline coordination is central to this role. The control wiring design lead regularly works with instrumentation, electrical, process, and control system engineers, and must be able to represent the wiring design discipline clearly in project meetings.
  • Strong communication, sound judgment under schedule pressure, and the ability to translate control system requirements into precise physical wiring documentation are all important differentiators for this role.
