About The Position

The Aquatics Team Leader will report to the Aquatics Supervisor and work collaboratively with other members of the YMCA team to provide a safe and fun aquatics environment. The Team Leader is responsible for providing support and delivering family focused programming and services, as well as helping to monitor and support program quality.

Requirements

  • Current Standard First Aid (valid within 2 years)
  • CPR-C & AED certificate (valid within 1 year)
  • Swim Instructor certification or equivalent
  • Current National Lifeguard (NL) pool option
  • Experience as a Lifeguard or Swimming Instructor
  • Demonstrated high level of customer service skills
  • Successful candidate will be required to provide 3 satisfactory references
  • Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Record check with a Vulnerable sector search issued no later than six (6) months preceding the start date.

Responsibilities

  • Provide visible, hands-on leadership on deck and in the water during swim lessons to ensure high-quality instruction, participant safety, and exceptional member experiences.
  • Monitor participant progress and skill acquisition, providing guidance and support to instructors to maintain program quality and consistency.
  • Build positive relationships with participants, parents, and guardians by regularly checking in to gather feedback, address concerns, and enhance overall satisfaction with the swim lesson program.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of observations, participant progress, and member feedback to support timely communication and follow-up actions.
  • Support Aquatic Supervisors with swim lesson administration, including maintaining lesson binders, attendance tracking, and program documentation.
  • Prepare and distribute daily lesson support summaries to Team Leads, Shift Leads, Aquatic Supervisors, and Managers, ensuring clear communication of operational updates and participant needs.
  • Assist with administrative functions such as waitlist management, participant enrollment updates, and maintaining accurate program information.
  • Conduct and support swim skill evaluations to assess participant development and recommend appropriate program progression.
  • Provide mentorship and hands-on coaching to instructors, supporting challenging classes, developing staff skills, leading by example, and stepping into instructional roles when operationally required.
  • Maintain flexibility by fulfilling swim instructor and lifeguard assignments, providing shift coverage as needed, and prioritizing safety supervision and quality program delivery to meet daily operational needs.
