Children’s Home Society of South Dakota is seeking a Full Time Team Coordinator to supervise a team of residential youth counselors within a residential unit and model supervision and trauma informed care of children. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 2-3 years experience working with children who have behavioral issues.
  • Must successfully complete all required background and pre-employment checks.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, human services, or related field.
  • Prior leadership or supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Nurture children through interactive and engaging strategies.
  • Maintain vigilant supervision of children.
  • Respond to emotional dysregulation in a trauma informed manner, supporting as needed.
  • Report critical information to treatment team/next shift team as needed by end of shift.
  • Assume Residential Youth Counselor tasks for breaks and take kids as needed.
  • Review and approve the schedule of therapeutic daily activities by direct care staff.
  • Oversee/conduct required shift logs/documentation.
  • Focus on relationship building.
  • Put the needs of the team before their own.
  • Organize and implement two team building activities a year.
  • Attend required annual training and demonstrate competency in required areas.
  • Attend and participate in weekly staff meetings.
  • Work on Quality Improvement goals.
  • Administer medications according to Agency policy.
  • Ensure campus buildings are secure and report any suspicious activity.
  • Ensure safety standards and policies and procedures are followed.
  • Complete all delegated drills.
  • Monitor performance and conduct one-on-one meetings and reviews.
  • Review and coach on behavior/restraint/incident reports before leaving shift, or before their next shift if circumstances warrant.
  • Delegate tasks in a balanced manner to strengthen the team.
  • Act as a resource for staff questions and collaborate on therapeutic treatment strategies.
  • Assist in training new and existing staff.
  • Model and coach on giving and receiving feedback.
  • Provide encouraging and constructive feedback.
  • Ensure the unit environment is trauma informed, warm, inviting and therapeutic.
  • Ensure the unit is decorated, clean, well-organized, fully supplied with necessary items as well as activities and hobby items.
  • Remove and replace damaged and non-working items promptly.
  • Prior to shift change, discuss client and unit changes or needs with the team starting shift, to ensure quality communication.

  • Starting at $22.00/hour (depending on experience and education) plus up to $2/hour shift differential.
