About The Position

This position is for Mercer DPS students only. The Teaching Assistant (TA) role involves approximately 13 hours per week (or 650 hours per year) of assistance to the Department and College. Responsibilities may include leading laboratories or discussion sessions, delivering limited didactic lectures, assisting professors with classroom activities (grading, recording, proctoring, preparing materials), or supporting departmental needs like animal care, analytical instrumentation, or facility maintenance. The Research Assistant (RA) role involves laboratory support for projects, including planning studies, organizing supplies, conducting Franz cell skin transport studies, running assays for drug or cosmetic molecules, data analysis, and writing reports. Students may work up to 20 hours per week, with employment duration dependent on need, funding, and continued good academic standing.

Requirements

  • Must be full-time graduate students in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences in good academic standing and making satisfactory progress toward research and academic goals.
  • Ability to understand the rationale for the studies
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to work safely in a laboratory environment.
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion in handling confidential information/projects.
  • Ability to prioritize work and complete assignments accurately, either independently or as part of a team; working from own initiative and/or following direction, policies, or procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching responsibility for laboratories or discussion sessions
  • A limited number of didactic lectures per semester based on discipline
  • Assignment to a professor for a semester to assist with classroom activities such as grading, recording, proctoring, preparation of course materials, etc.
  • Assistance with other Departmental needs such as care and maintenance of animals and the animal facility, analytical instrumentation, or Department equipment and facilities.
  • Provide laboratory support for your projects.
