About The Position

Drake University's Department of Music is seeking a full-time Teaching Associate in Voice to begin in August 2026. This is a 9-month, non-tenure-track, salaried appointment with Drake's full benefit package. The role involves teaching studio voice to undergraduate students, including music majors, minors, and non-majors, with a weekly voice class. Duties also include teaching required core courses such as Diction, Vocal Pedagogy, and Vocal Literature, as well as administrative and recruitment responsibilities. The department emphasizes professional preparation, collaborative learning, and critical thinking, aiming to develop students' intellectual, practical, and expressive abilities in music. Requirements

Master’s degree or Artist’s diploma at Graduate level required.

Nice To Haves

Successful teaching at the University level.
Training in classical and musical theater singing techniques.
Proficient piano skills.
An active profile within professional organizations (i.e., NATS, MTNA).
Ability to teach and connect with a diverse student population.
Commitment to the ongoing growth and excellence of the studio voice, choral, and opera programs.

Responsibilities

Teach studio voice to undergraduate students (music majors, music minors, non-music majors).
Teach weekly one-on-one lessons.
Administer and attend weekly studio classes/departmentals.
Prepare students for recitals and competitions.
Teach one 2-credit course (MUS 075/076 - Diction) each semester.
Teach Vocal Literature (rotates every other fall).
Attend Studio Classes/Departmentals/Recitals.
Perform administrative and recruitment duties in conjunction with the music department and voice area faculty.
