About The Position

FirstLine Schools is seeking talented and passionate Teaching Assistants for its K-8 schools for the 2026-27 school year. Teaching Assistants will develop their teaching practice through various responsibilities, including planning, teaching, and professional development opportunities guided by mentor teachers and school instructional leaders. FirstLine Schools, founded in 1998, operates several (Pre)K-8th grade schools in New Orleans with a mission to create and inspire great, open admissions public schools. The faculty is diverse and dedicated to student success and teacher growth, with leaders accountable for student achievement and teacher development. The organization focuses on excellence in teaching through coaching and professional development centered on a Vision of Excellence in Teaching rubric, which includes components like On Task, Essential Content, Cognitive Engagement, Demonstration of Learning, and Community of Learners.

Requirements

  • HS diploma or equivalent required
  • A strong background in and command of content area
  • Experience working with students from open admissions charter schools (or similar public schools) preferred

Responsibilities

  • Co-teach with a K-8th grade classroom teacher as appropriate (in small groups)
  • Plan and lead small reading/math classes
  • Assess students and use data to inform teaching and student grouping
  • Teach enrichment or intervention class during ‘Enrichment Period’
  • Individual tutoring as needed
  • Plan and teach at least one unit during the second semester teaching
  • Meet regularly with Development Partner
  • Participate in duty rotations, whole school, and grade events
  • Plan and lead in the development and implementation of at least one school culture project
  • Other duties as assigned
