After School Teen REACH Teaching Assistant
About The Position
Kenneth Young Center is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit dedicated to providing comprehensive outpatient behavioral health services to individuals of all walks of life. Located in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago, we offer a wide range of services including outpatient therapeutic care, recovery-oriented support, community prevention, LGBTQ+ outreach, older adult services, and crisis intervention. Teaching Assistants will provide a balance of academic and enrichment activities to help 6th to 8th-grade students develop and strengthen academic, physical, and social skills. Activities will be conducted in accordance with the conditions and terms set forth by the Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) Program and will take place in CCSD59 middle schools during the school year (September - May).
Requirements
- 18 years and older.
- Experience working with the middle school population.
- Familiarity with typical electronic office equipment, including networked printers and file storage equipment.

- Spanish- or Polish-speaking preferred.
Responsibilities
- Ensuring the wellbeing and safety of youth at all times.
- Implement lesson plans and maintain daily classroom schedules.
- Support each youth’s social, emotional, and intellectual growth/development through lesson plans and interactions.
- Using a variety of instructional and assessment strategies to meet individual youth needs.
- Assisting youth with assignments or difficult concepts.
- Maintaining weekly communication with parents, staff, and faculty regarding students' progress.
- Transport participants when needed in a KYC-owned or rented vehicle.
- Tracking attendance of the students and other clerical duties in connection with lesson plans and programming.
- Provide nutritional snacks in accordance with relevant local and state health standards for food preparation and handling and meet the standards of the National Afterschool Association.
