About The Position

The Buffalo Board of Education is seeking a Teaching Assistant for the Intensive Needs Program. This role involves providing direct instructional services to students under the supervision of the principal and the direction of certified teachers. These Intensive Needs positions require specialized skills and training, and appointed Teaching Assistants will remain in place for a minimum of three years. Appointed staff will be required to participate in training in July and/or August at the contractual rate of pay.

Requirements

Hold one of the following credentials: temporary license, continuing certificate, or Level I, II, III or Para-Professional certificate.
Have taken and achieved a qualifying score on the Assessment of Teaching Assistant Skills Tests (ATAS) or the Liberal Arts and Sciences Test (LAST).
Possess and maintain state and or federal certification
High school diploma or GED
Skill in the care and supervision of students
Ability to follow written and oral instructions
Ability to speak and write effectively
Working knowledge of the school environment and the population it serves
Awareness and ability to work successfully within a diverse population

Responsibilities

Working with individual pupils or groups of pupils on special instructional projects
Providing the teacher with information about pupils that will assist the teacher in the development of appropriate learning experiences
Assisting pupils in the use of available instructional resources, and assisting in the development of appropriate learning experiences
Utilizing their own special skills and abilities by assisting in instructional programs in areas such as: foreign language, arts, crafts, music and similar projects
Communicating effectively with the instructional team, including the classroom teacher, other professional staff and parents
Attending to the physical needs of the students, as appropriate
Assisting in related institutional work as required
