About The Position

Abilities First, Inc. is seeking dedicated individuals for Teaching Assistant and Teacher's Aide positions within our Poughkeepsie School Program. For over 60 years, Abilities First has been dedicated to empowering individuals with developmental disabilities to live independent lives through a variety of services including early education, school programs, habilitation, and employment services. We are hosting a walk-in interview event on Friday, August 14th, 2026, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at 24 Fireman's Way, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603.

Requirements

• NYS TA Certification Required for Teaching Assistants.
• Ability to push and pull students in wheelchairs.
• Ability to lift, bend, squat, turn in the knees, pivot and grasp with both hands.
• Ability to perform CPR/First Aid techniques.
• Ability to perform behavior intervention techniques.
• Ability to perform lifting and carrying techniques.
• Must be able to perform duties with or without a reasonable accommodation.

Nice To Haves

• Entry-level candidates are welcome for Teacher's Aide positions.
• Experience in a school program setting is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assist teachers in providing educational support to students.
• Implement behavior intervention techniques.
• Safely lift, carry, push, and pull students, including those in wheelchairs.
• Perform techniques taught in CPR/First Aid.
• Follow the school calendar and participate in a 6-week summer program for full-time positions.
