About The Position

The Department of Dramatic Art at UNC-Chapel Hill invites applications for a full-time Teaching Assistant Professor of Dramaturgy (non-tenure track, fixed-term). The successful candidate will teach a 3/3 load (six courses annually), with primary responsibility for the theatre history sequence required for the major. This includes Theatre History (DRAM 220 which covers theatre beyond the Euro-American tradition) and two additional theatre history courses. As a dramaturg, the faculty member will bring historical and critical perspectives into the classroom, helping students connect theatrical traditions and contexts to contemporary practice and production. In addition to teaching, the candidate may have the opportunity to work with PlayMakers Repertory company and/or the Kenan Theatre Company.

Requirements

  • Applicants must hold a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Dramaturgy or Theatre or related discipline
  • Have at least three years of teaching experience at the university, college, or professional level
  • Demonstrate expertise in dramaturgy and related practices
  • Strong skills in communication, collaboration, and mentoring

Nice To Haves

  • Professional dramaturgy experience with LORT/AEA or other professional theatres, new play development, or experience in directing and producing
  • Experience teaching Asian, African, Latin American, Latine theatre or performance
