About The Position

The Health and Human Performance Department at UW-Superior is excited to be launching a new Sport and Recreation Management program in fall of 2026 and we are inviting applications for a Teaching Assistant Professor of Sport and Recreation Management. We are seeking dynamic, student-focused candidates with expertise in Sport and Recreation Management or a closely related field. Strong candidates will demonstrate experience working with professional, collegiate, or community sport organizations. They will prioritize teaching excellence and embrace a student-centered approach that supports diverse learners. The qualified applicant will design and facilitate classroom and online instruction within the Sport and Recreation Management program and will serve as an instructor of record. They will advise students, facilitate course assessment, and may supervise student employees. The candidate will also engage in scholarly work and service as appropriate.

Requirements

  • Earned master’s degree in Sport Management, Recreation, Business or closely related field – degree must be conferred by August 25, 2026.
  • 2 years of experience teaching courses in sport management, recreation, or related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of industry experience in sport/recreation management.
  • Candidates must be independently, legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire and maintain their work authorization without the support or help of UW-Superior throughout employment.
  • UW-Superior is not an E-Verify employer; therefore, it cannot employ individuals on the STEM OPT extension.

Nice To Haves

  • Ph.D. in Sport Management, Recreation, Business or closely related field.
  • Teaching courses in sport management, recreation, or related field at the undergraduate or graduate level, both in-person and online modalities.

Responsibilities

  • Advises students on academic and career direction within a specific field of study
  • Facilitates classroom, online and/or laboratory instruction, including assessment of student performance
  • Develops and designs curriculum and instructional material relevant to a course of instruction
  • Contributes to the strategic development of curriculum and academic content through various mediums to ensure the integrity of the educational mission of the work unit
  • Contributes to the development of teaching and learning scholarly work including publications and presentations
  • Collaborates with department faculty and staff to develop teaching strategies relevant to the discipline
  • May supervise student employees involved in development or delivery of instruction
  • Instruction of 12 credits or their equivalent per semester in HHP/HLTH courses, both online and in the classroom.
  • Advisement of HHP Department students.
  • Program development and promotion, with adherence to national standards (if applicable).
  • Coordination and collaboration with the UWS Admissions Department on recruitment of new students to the program.
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with university employees, school districts, and community partners.
  • Assist with revisions in catalog copy, advisement sheets, and website.
  • Engage in curriculum planning, assessment, review, and mapping.
  • Engage in scholarship in field(s) of academic expertise.
  • Engage in departmental, university, and community service.
  • Complete required trainings and professional development as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.
