About The Position

The Health and Human Performance Department at UW-Superior invites applications for a Teaching Assistant Professor of Physical Education and Health Education. The qualified applicant will design and facilitate classroom, online, and/or laboratory instruction within an academic discipline to ensure quality delivery of instruction and integration of content within an academic work unit. Provides for-credit instruction in formats such as classroom, online and/or laboratory settings, including grading. Serves as an instructor of record. Advises students, facilitates course assessment, and may supervise student employees. Develop a program of scholarly work that informs or contributes to teaching and learning. Provides service as a contributing member of the department and a participant in university and professional service.

Requirements

  • Earned master's degree in Physical Education and/or Health Education and/or related field.
  • Earned bachelor's degree in Physical Education and/or Health Education and/or related field.
  • At least one degree must include physical education licensure preparation.
  • Hold or have held licensure in K-12 Physical Education.
  • Minimum of three (3) years full-time public-school teaching experience in Physical Education at the K-12 level and/or minimum of three (3) years full-time public-school teaching experience in Health at the K-12 level.
  • This position is currently ineligible for H1-B sponsorship. A qualification for this position includes independent eligibility to work within the United States upon hire date.

Nice To Haves

  • Current or previous licensure in K-12 Physical Education and Health Education.
  • Minimum of three (3) years full-time public-school teaching experience in both Physical Education at the K-12 level and minimum of three (3) years full-time public-school teaching experience in Health at the K-12 level.
  • Experience with Coaching.

Responsibilities

  • May supervise student employees involved in development or delivery of instruction
  • Facilitates classroom, online and/or laboratory instruction, including assessment of student performance
  • Advises students on academic and career direction within a specific field of study
  • Develops and designs curriculum and instructional material relevant to a course of instruction
  • Contributes to the strategic development of curriculum and academic content through various mediums to ensure the integrity of the educational mission of the work unit
  • Collaborates with department faculty and staff to develop teaching strategies relevant to the discipline
  • Contributes to the development of teaching and learning scholarly work including publications and presentations
  • Instruction of 12 credits per semester within all departmental course prefixes (COAC, HHP, HHPEd, HLTH) online and in the classroom.
  • Advise students majoring in K-12 Physical Education and Health and other students as assigned.
  • Work collaboratively to ensure the K-12 Physical Education and K-12 Health teacher preparation programs maintain compliance with the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI).
  • Program development and promotion, with adherence to national standards.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with university employees, school districts, and community partners.
  • Assist with revisions of catalog copy, advisement sheets, and website.
  • Engage in curriculum planning, assessment, review, and mapping.
  • Engage in scholarship in field(s) of academic expertise.
  • Engage in departmental, university, and community service
  • Complete required trainings and professional development as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.
