About The Position

The Department of World Languages, Literatures, and Cultures in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas invites applications for a full-time, renewable, non-tenure-track, position at the rank of Teaching Assistant Professor of Classical Studies in Ancient Greek and Latin languages to start in August 2027. The successful candidate will serve as language program coordinator for the department’s Ancient Greek and Latin programs, with a 4/4 teaching load. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in hand by August 1, 2027. This is a full-time, nine-month appointment. Teaching duties include Ancient Greek and Latin courses at all levels, as well as contributing to large enrollment classes in ancient Greek, Roman, and Mediterranean culture. The candidate will also oversee the introductory language curricula and coordinate teaching assistants and instructors when necessary. This is an in-person position. Most University classes are offered face-to-face, and this role requires regular on-campus presence to support high-quality instruction and student learning. Participation in selected departmental or programmatic activities that advance teaching quality and student success is also expected, consistent with the responsibilities of non-tenure track faculty as defined by the academic department. Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

Requirements

• A terminal degree in Classical Studies (or a closely related field) from an accredited institution of higher education conferred by the date of initial appointment
• A demonstrated record of exceptional teaching and mentoring at the undergraduate level
• Ability to teach Latin and Classical Greek
• Ph.D. in hand by August 1, 2027
