About The Position

Biidaaban Kinoomaagegamik is seeking a Contract Junior/Intermediate Teacher to deliver engaging, culturally responsive programming aligned with the Ontario curriculum and the values of Sagamok Anishnawbek. The successful candidate will be part of a collaborative team dedicated to fostering student success through inclusive, land-based, and culturally grounded education. This is a full-time, contract role, covering a maternity leave.

Requirements

  • Valid Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) certification and QECO registration
  • Knowledge of Ontario curriculum and willingness to learn Sagamok and Biidaaban policies
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively
  • Knowledge and appreciation of Anishinaabe culture, traditions, and history
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
  • Successful completion of a Vulnerable Sector Check (within 90 days of hire)
  • Ability to obtain and maintain confidentiality and privacy certifications
  • Completion of a six-month probationary period

Nice To Haves

  • Additional Qualifications (AQs) in Special Education, Native as a Second Language, or Outdoor Education are assets
  • Fluency in Anishinaabemowin is an asset (or willingness to learn)

Responsibilities

  • Perform duties as outlined in the Education Act and adhere to Ontario College of Teachers standards
  • Plan and deliver effective programming for Primary / Junior students
  • Create a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment that supports student well-being and achievement
  • Integrate Anishinaabe culture, language, history, and perspectives into teaching practices
  • Support students’ physical, social, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual development
  • Collaborate with colleagues, educational assistants, Elders, and language speakers to support student learning
  • Identify and support diverse learning needs, including implementation of IEPs where required
  • Maintain accurate student records and communicate progress with parents/guardians
  • Foster strong relationships with families, community members, and educational partners
  • Participate in co-planning, team teaching, and reflective practice
  • Support extracurricular activities and contribute to school life
  • Maintain classroom management and discipline in accordance with school policies
  • Actively pursue professional development in literacy, numeracy, land-based learning, and Indigenous education
