About The Position

The Excel Center, operated by Goodwill Industries of the Chesapeake, is seeking a passionate and student-focused Teacher to help adult learners earn their high school diploma and achieve their academic, career, and personal goals. This role is ideal for educators who believe in meeting students where they are and creating supportive learning environments that inspire persistence, growth, and success. Teachers use a variety of instructional approaches to engage learners with diverse educational backgrounds while preparing them for graduation and post-secondary opportunities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in the subject area being taught
  • Current Maryland Teaching License or certification in the subject area
  • Ability to obtain required certification within one year may be considered for provisional employment
  • Strong instructional and classroom management skills
  • Ability to engage, motivate, and support adult learners
  • Experience using data to drive instructional decisions
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Word, and Excel
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational abilities
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and student success

Nice To Haves

  • Two or more years of teaching experience after licensure
  • Experience teaching high school curriculum
  • Experience working with adult learners, non-traditional students, urban education populations, or adult education programs
  • Multiple teaching endorsements

Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging, standards-based instruction aligned with Maryland Academic Standards
  • Develop lesson plans and learning activities that support individual student needs
  • Utilize a variety of instructional methods, including direct instruction, small-group learning, one-on-one support, online learning, and self-paced instruction
  • Design and administer assessments that measure student progress and mastery of learning objectives
  • Differentiate instruction to support learners across varying academic skill levels
  • Maintain a student-centered approach focused on engagement, persistence, and achievement
  • Monitor attendance, assessment results, and academic performance data
  • Use student data to inform instructional decisions and improve learning outcomes
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and performance
  • Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development, instructional best practices, and student retention strategies
  • Participate in grade-level activities, professional learning communities, and school-wide initiatives
  • Communicate effectively with students, staff, and leadership regarding student progress
  • Partner with coaches and support staff to help students achieve graduation and post-secondary goals
  • Participate in required staff meetings, team meetings, and professional development activities
