Requirements

A minimum of an Associate of Arts (AA) or Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in early childhood education, child development, or related field required.
One year of experience as a student intern, tutor, or instructional assistant working in an educational setting with pre-elementary school children is strongly preferred.
A minimum of 3 Infant/Toddler Development course units, preferred.
California Teaching Commission Child Development Associate Teacher permit preferred.
If no permit is held, a professional development plan will be put in place to ensure the pathway to obtain the permit.
Bilingual English, Spanish, Korean and/or Tagalog preferred.

Responsibilities

Assists in facilitating and implementing individual and group activities to support children’s social, physical, and intellectual development.
Plans, assesses, and develops responsive curriculum activities tailored to each child’s developmental needs and learning approach.
Collaborates with co-teachers to stimulate learning and maintain a safe, clean, and healthy environment that encourages exploration and growth.
Completes educational assessments and maintains accurate records.
Ensures the inclusion of children with Individual Family Development Plans (IFSPs).
Actively promotes parent engagement by supporting parents in their role as primary educators, enhancing their involvement in their child’s school readiness and development.
Provides diapering, dressing, and personal care for toddlers while maintaining a clean and hygienic environment.
Nurtures children through activities that support their social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development.
Implements curriculum and daily classroom planning; observes, assesses, and documents child development to create individualized goals based on each child’s needs and strengths.
Collaborates with staff to support families by integrating resources across parent involvement, social services, nutrition, health, and mental health.
Maintains accurate records, conducts regular screenings, and supports school-readiness by reinforcing parents’ roles as primary educators.
Collaborates with Co-Teacher and Child & Family Service Advocate (CFSA) to engage families, provide resources, and support parents as primary educators through home visits, conferences, and daily communication.
Maintains accurate attendance, activity, and assessment records, including anecdotal notes and data entry into systems such as Child Plus.
Participates in daily planning, documentation, and classroom management in coordination with the Co-Teacher.
Supports the integration of comprehensive Head Start services (e.g., health, mental health, nutrition, social services, and parent involvement) into classroom learning experiences.
