About The Position

The Atlanta Speech School Classroom Teacher/Wardlaw Program is seeking an outstanding professional to serve as a full-time reading specialist for the Wardlaw School, which supports children with dyslexia and other language-based learning disabilities. The program operates on a multi-disciplinary, collaborative model where classroom teachers, reading specialists, and speech and language pathologists work together. This role offers an opportunity to learn from peers and experts in the field, and interact with leading researchers. The position involves designing and implementing instructional plans for a small class of students with dyslexia or language-based learning disabilities, with goals derived from psycho-educational evaluations and diagnostic teaching. The teacher will also complete reports, lead parent-teacher conferences, support student services, work within the Integrated Intervention Model™ to establish language goals, and engage parents as partners. The position is full-time, on campus, requiring presence 5 days per week from 7:45 AM to 2:45 PM.

Requirements

  • A master’s degree or commensurate experience in learning disabilities, reading, speech-language pathology, or special education from an accredited university.
  • Training in at least one multi-sensory reading method.
  • An ability to develop, plan, and implement curriculum using a variety of resources.
  • Experience with elementary-aged students.
  • Three exceptional references.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement a plan of instruction for a class of nine or ten children, each with the diagnosis of mild to moderate dyslexia or language-based learning disability.
  • Complete two written reports per school year and lead three parent-teacher conferences.
  • Support each student in your class as needed to secure other services provided by the school or by referral to outside sources.
  • Work within our Integrated Intervention Model™ to establish and implement appropriate language goals for each student in the classroom.
  • Engage parents as partners.
