About The Position

The Teacher is responsible for developing and implementing educational lesson plans, programs, and assessments for students. This role involves collaboration with public-school districts and educational institutions to ensure students with Individual Education Plans (IEPs) receive timely testing and support. The position requires meticulous documentation of attendance, student progress, testing data, and lesson plans, with all materials maintained for a minimum of two years. Teachers are expected to augment existing curriculum materials with up-to-date information from online resources. Additionally, the Teacher will assist the treatment team in developing educational goals for client treatment plans, attend necessary staffing meetings, and utilize appropriate measurement techniques to assess educational program effectiveness. Consultation with the Program Director, Administrator, and/or Lead Teacher regarding program development and procedures is also a key aspect of this role. The Teacher must maintain client records in compliance with licensing, funding, and certification codes and provide related services as requested.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Must hold a valid Arkansas Teaching Certification in Special Education or have a waiver from the Arkansas Department of Education along with an approved Additional Licensure Plan.
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Applications.
  • Ability to document accurately and professionally.
  • Ability as a self-motivator and the aptitude to work in a high stress fast paced position with a minimal amount of supervision.
  • Must be physically capable to receive verbal and written directions.
  • Remains current in Crisis Prevention Intervention Training and Seclusion/Restraint and assist with crisis interventions if needed.
  • Must be willing and able to work with all patients of Methodist Family Health, regardless of gender.
  • Must have good auditory, visual and olfactory ability.
  • Use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools or controls.
  • Must be able to maintain effective audio, visual discrimination and perception needed for making observations, communicating with others, reading and writing, and operating office equipment and other treatment equipment.
  • Must be able to use a telephone to communicate verbally and a computer to communicate through written means, to review information and enter/retrieve data, to see and read characters on a computer screen, chart or other treatment items.
  • COVID-19 vaccination and Flu vaccination are mandatory and required for all positions (subject to qualified exemptions).

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement educational lesson plans, programs, daily agendas, and testing materials for students.
  • Collaborate with public-school districts and educational institutions to ensure timely testing and planning for students with IEPs.
  • Document attendance records weekly for the Lead Teacher.
  • Maintain data collection forms for students with IEPs.
  • Keep daily observation notes on all students.
  • Maintain work portfolios for all students as indicated.
  • Track data on student work and progress with the PACE Learning System, if applicable.
  • Maintain testing documentation and filing.
  • Prepare and submit weekly lesson plans to the Lead Teacher by Friday for the coming week, including specific IEP objective numbers and skills from the Arkansas Framework of basic skills when applicable.
  • Maintain all graded work for a minimum of two years, as it is considered part of the child's record and property of MFH.
  • Augment some textbooks with up-to-date information from internet education resource sites to complete the curriculum.
  • Assist the treatment team in preparing goals/objectives for the educational portion of a client’s treatment planning.
  • Attend staffing meetings as necessary and/or required.
  • Explore and utilize measurement techniques and assessment tools to measure the effectiveness of educational programs.
  • Consult with the Program Director or Administrator and/or Lead Teacher regarding changes and/or development of educational programs and procedures.
  • Maintain client records and files as required by licensing, funding, and certification codes.
  • Provide related services and duties as requested by the Program Director, Administrator, and/or Lead Teacher.
  • Accept other reasonable assignments as necessary for the efficient operation of assigned programs.
